Just got back from Isle of Man went over to watch the manx gp i got pulled by the manx police for doing 43mph in a 30mph zone this happened on the run down to govenors bridge on the straight just after bedstead corner which is a down hill section of the course, the copper was hiding up the govenors drive way and had the camera up against the bank at the end of the drive so you could not see him or the camera, first i knew was when the copper stepped out into the road and stopped me, he said my speed was 43mph in a 30, its not the fact i got pulled but the size of the bloody fine that annoyed me -- ?178.77  for 13 mph over the limit over here its ?60 i know that you get points over here but i am not sure wether i will recieve points when the case is heard on nov 5th, i have already paid the fine but was told the case still gets heard and i will be informed of the out come, was also told to ignore the letter from the court as i have paid the fine..(and got a receipt) i been going to the island since 1965 but wont be going anymore there were police everywhere with cameras and so many restricted areas its pointless taking your bike. :bang:

That's ridiculous - totally out of proportion to the offence and quite possibly a deliberate 'revenue raiser'.

Disgusting.

Its getting like that everywhere now average speed cameras etc reducing speed limits needlessly and frightening people into driving way to slow and potentially causing accidents would be better catching people texting and killing people instead but easy money catching someone going 5mph over a 50 limit on a 1 mile straight with no schools junctions lights road works etc wankers just wants you to show two fingers and do 150 .

Fines on the island do tend to be more severe than over here (using a phone while driving is £1000-£2500 fine, plus 4 points) and they are generally more likely to be out and about during the periods of the TT and the ManxGP. You can blame the amount of wannabe Rossi's for that... Manx plod are particularly hot on speeding in and around the villages during the race periods, but that's the trade-off for being able to legally welly it over the Mountain...!

As far as I know you won't get points, as there's no reciprocal agreement with the DVLA ....just the fine. If you're thinking of contesting it then you'll need to turn up in person and you'll need a Manx lawyer (and they're bloody expensive...!).

Chalk it up to experience.

43 in a 30?

Can't see any reason to moan about getting caught.

Or the size of the fine - when in Rome.....

And yes, I have had a speeding ticket in the past - just accept it, nobody else to blame, move on.

I am puzzled why you have posted on here, four years since last post??

last time I was on the island the fine was £5 per mph over the limit & no points if paid on the island, to be fair if you don't know your way around its easy to get caught eg .............. no limit .............. no limit ......... nothing changing ............... 30mph sign & a copper :(

We got caught, 4 of us in a row & the copper just said I will give him (leader) the ticket but you were all speeding so you should all chip in :D

In the cop shop there was a rogues gallery of speeders on a chalk board behind the desk, top idiot was a german at 186 in a 40 zone

I suspect that he would've been jailed for that.

I suspect that he would've been jailed for that.

If I remember right he was stuck in the cells until the next boat off the island & forced to take it back to the mainland, I suspect a huge fine was involved as well but this was back in 2000 so cant quite remember all the details apart from the big silly number & our own fine
