-----------

Police Forces across England and Wales will be carrying simultaneous speed enforcement campaigns for the coming weeks until the end of January.

We are working with The Sussex Safer Roads Partnership (SSRP) supporting this speed enforcement campaign, which is coordinated by The National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) in January 2019.

The aims of the campaign are:

To target irresponsible and dangerous drivers committing excess speed offences.

To inform drivers of the risks - both to themselves and to other road users associated with speeding.

To encourage drivers to obey speed limits and drive at speeds safe for the road environment.

During this period, Roads Policing Units in Sussex will be carrying out a number of enforcement activities alongside the day to day deployments.

The safety camera team will be using their combination of fixed and mobile cameras to enforce the law and provide support to the campaign. As well as speed, they are able to capture mobile phone and seatbelt offences. They will be working with colleagues to ensure a robust stance is taken on tackling speeding offences in the county each and every week. For more information about the safety cameras used in Sussex clickhere

Sussex’s Community Speed watch groups (CSW) will be providing extra support in local areas with their team of volunteers. CSW is a national initiative that assists the work of the police, where members of the public use speed detection devices to capture offences, which are then referred back to the police through Operation Crackdown. If you are interested in joining or starting a group in your area, please click here

Sergeant Phil Badman, Partnership Sergeant for SSRP, said: “Speed is a significant contributory factor with regards to road collisions, this campaign demonstrates willingness by all police forces to tackle this issue. It also highlights the possibility to motorists that being prosecuted whilst driving at excessive speed could be greatly increased. Speeding reduces your chances of surviving any collision you may be in. You may think you’re in control of your vehicle, but you are not in control of what others are doing on the road. Your driving behaviour could be the difference between life and death.”
We ask all road users to obey the speed limits and remember that they are a limit and not a target – slowing down could save a life.

You can keep up to date with activities by following @SussexSRP, @CommunitySpeedw and @SussexRoadsPol. And also follow us on Facebook at sussexsaferroads

Why did they send it to you?

Are you getting charged with speeding, to keep your aggressive use of horn charge company?

Hi all,
No idea if this is correct or not but received it last night.
All cameras on the M1 and M25 go live at midnight tonight, set at 72mph.
Auto ticket generating system so watch your speed.

I would question that. 72mph isn't much tolerance and doesn't allow for any inaccuracies in the speedo. Don't Dibble and cameras pull you for above 10% of the limit + 2mph?

Yes I know about the 10%, but I do remember some Police chief a few months back
banging on about zero tolerance with speed limits.

I think that a 72mph catchall would be quite fool hardy

A person who has an accident could possibly claim to have been concerned about the possibility of a nick and was paying attention to the speedo

OK, pretty stupid I know, but in this litigious age the solicitors COULD have a field day !
AND
Unless parliament changes the laws regarding speedo accuracy I cannot see it happening
A change in tyres ( Or even tyre pressure ) could easily result in a 3% error ..
If it does happen, I would suggest anyone reported for 72mph in a 70 limit request a speedo check immediately ( you ARE entitled to do this ), which would almost certainly result in a notice of no further action being issued as it becomes more trouble than it is worth

I agree with the above about the 72 mph setting, it was more about the
cameras going live with the auto ticket generating system.

It'd be nice if the Police chiefs were to apply zero policy to some of the less glamorous and slightly more difficult to police crime. You know....burglary, yobs, etc.
