Spain 2010

Dark Angel

Still kickin' it!
Please ask your local motorcycle cop when his last training and update course was......it's been against Spanish motoring law to use GPS whilst driving or riding for about a year.

http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/28/2809.asp

The way I interpret it, the cop said "no problem with having GPS - just don't mess with it when you're riding/driving because that's illegal".

This was highlighted about 4 weeks ago:

... the "Illegal use of GPS; I-pods; Intercoms; and CD Players" ruling only became LAW in December 2009.

Note the writer's interpretation of the "Law" which, of course, should not be interpreted as a potential defence against prosecution:

"The law should come into effect within 6 months. It means that you can not touch your GPS screen while on the road"

And don't hook up an earpiece or use Bluetooth to hear the GPS instructions as the law states............"Driving using helmets, headsets or other devices that reduce the emphasis on driving or manually using mobile phones, navigation devices or any other communication system," earns three points and a 200 euro (US $275) fine, according to the legislation.

Ok this is the way it is in Spain.
I called into the Guardia Civil today to clarify the SAT NAV situation.

As I said before no problem having sat nav on the bike or car but you will be nicked if you are seen playing with it while riding, this also applies to car drivers.

No sound equipment allowed in the helmet i.e. MP3,Bluetooth,bike to bike or bike to pillion.

I hope this makes sense to you all.

Any other info do not hesitate to get in touch.

If any one is in the Valencia -- Alicante area give me a shout.
