Sound cameras?

Its just been announced over here - in the merry land of Oz - that they are going to trial a 'sound camera' (don't know correct term). Apparently these cameras detect sound and if it is over the set Decibels it takes a picture of the vehicle in question. They have stated that these are only going to be used for stopping trucks from using the exhaust brakes in certain areas but you can bet they will expand it like the speed cameras.

Is there anyone on the forum with experience of these and how they are used by the local councils etc? They are also trialing a 'new' front numberplate over here for bikes (to be fitted retrospectively) - looks like it might be coming through also.

The time wheree each vehicle will be electronically tagged, sattelites picking on each vehicle speeding and tickets automatically issued is not far - the technology is there.
As for "Happiness IS the corner", well it isn't for those who miss it!!! (JK, I know what you mean and you're right!)

But the flip side is that the technology is also here to PREVENT anyone speeding but that wouldn't bring in revenue :bang: Don't vote A government will get in. Plagiarism I know.

Sound Camera!! hows that work then? who's to say what caused the noise that caused the "camera" to go off, how can you can prove it was the vehicle you've taken a picture of?. Even if you had a continuous recording video and sound you still couldn't prove there was was no background interference that affected the reading.
That's why you hardly ever see any enforcement of it over here and why the hot hatch brigade get away with their dustbins. To do a check everything has to be set up correctly, right distance from the target, right speed, no background interference etc etc, easiest option is the biker with a straighforward non approved illegal exhaust that doesn't have to be tested and don't we know it.

Like MickB says how are the authorities going to prove what set the camera off? I live near an RAF base with Tornados, F14's and Harriers making a racket on most days.

Actually this could be to our advantage... wait by the camera until plod passes in his plod mobile and let rip with one of those air horns right underneath the camera....
