It was also a bit rubbish at the reception when the (Welsh) father of the groom rightly felt it necessary to ask anyone who was watching the rugby on their phones to either switch them off or go outside during the speeches. I know the Welsh love their rugby but.......
Bev’s cousin Duncan married a Smoggie lass, the reception was at Guisborough hall & was a very expensive affair (bride’s father owned several pharmacies) the timing of the reception couldn’t have been worse or better depending on your perspective, boro were playing Leeds, at about 3.40 the father of the bride was making his speech, part way through he announced “feel free to interupt if Boro score”
Leeds won.

That has got to be the hight of bad manners if someone invites you to a wedding or other formal event the least you should do is turn your phones off!! :(

This was before smart phones, one or two people had transistor radios with an earpiece to one ear, in the foyer was a large television showing the match.

Even worse, they went with every intention of being elsewhere during a couples important event, I for one would not invite people that gave as much attention to a poxy game they could see any weekend or even later on tape whilst my to be wife and families paid probably a lot of money to make our day memorable!! someone scores just as she says "I do" to GET IN YOU STAR!!! bellowed out from different places in the church!! I can see that going down well!!:oops::rolleyes:

The vicar requested that radios be turned off for the duration.

I agree though really bad manners, if the match on the pitch is more important to you than the match in the church then stay at home.

Unfortunately, it seems to be the norm nowadays. I first came across it when I moved to Singapore back in March 2013. Everywhere I went, families sat down to eat, cinemas, bars, wherever, peoples more interested in their bastard phones. I couldn't believe it when I saw a family of six sat around a steamboat dinner and every single one of them had their heads buried in their respective phones. Astonishing. I return back to the UK almost six years later only to find that it's now almost as bad here.

I can't count the number of times we've been out for a drink or a meal and seen a couple, both nose down into their phone. Are they texting each other to save their voices...?? :nusenuse:

Worst one, we were out for a family meal, next table were what I think were Grandparents, parents & two young kids, both kids were sat watching kids tv on their iPads, volume was so loud that converstion was impossible.
I approached the parents & very politely asked them to get their kids to turn the volume down, the Mother looked at me like something she’d stepped in but reluctantly told the kids to turn the volume down, after a bit of protest the volume was turned down, for about five minutes then back up to previous level, again I approached them & asked them to lowe the volume, Mother tutted then instructed the kids to use their headphones.

One of the reasons we don't go to the cinema these days is due to twats playing with their phones.
It's a shame those phone signal blockers aren't legal over here. I'd want them everywhere.....

I’ve had a few similar incidents on planes. Unlike you, I haven’t been on my best behaviour when making it known that headphones need to be worn. I’m scared of flying and, as a result, my incredible patience and tolerance of idiots diminishes at a rate of knots.

Yvo and I took my "then" 15-year-old daughter to a local cafe, as the three of us sat after finishing our meals, my daughter piped up "what's wrong with this picture" Yvo and I were confused, until she pointed out the old fella and his girlfriend were head down in the phones, and there was she, no phone looking at us doing what everyone expected her to be doing!!
