went for a meal last night with our good friends & next door neighbours.
Melanie’s father is 92 & has terminal cancer, he is living in a council house in Wakefield, he worked all his life as a self employed butcher & was always meticulous regarding paying bills/tax etc.
He has a carer comes to him twice a day who stays for no more than ten minutes, Melanie travels over to feed him, he has been in & out of hospital due to falls.
Melanie has been told that her father has less than a month & probably less than a week to live & as such his care is now end of life care.
The chap who lives over the road to her father is in a similar situation but is not at end of life care stage yet, this guy retired himself at 36 years old after flitting from job to job so has been on benefits since the age of 36 & has had his rent paid for him, he is a drinker/smoker & has no savings.
The difference between the two cases is that the tax that Melanie’s father paid all his life is paying for his neighbour’s care whilst he is having to use his savings to provide for his own.
