Like them, especially the table. (y) The smaller clock is a bit minimalist for me....I'd paint the hands if it were mine.

The bigger clock looks like something a Klingon would have on his mantlepiece...! ;)

The taller one stands 13" high its been called a turtle on a stick & a palm tree but by those who have seen it but I agree Klingon homeware suits it better :D

The round one isn't that small, difficult to see in the pic but its 7.5 inch diameter & stands 8 inch tall ;) hands can be changed easy enough its just those were the only ones I had left long enough

These were intended as side tables Cougar the only real difference being the fixing of the top, I do it different of I intend them so be sat on, no hassle to change though ;)

Do you make them with weight bearing in mind..? Just thinking....if you do, then small tables could equally be advertised as stools, doubling your chances of a sale.

Currently trying to convince SMWBO that they would make good stools for the garden in the summer, but she's got other ideas....and as I don't do "gardening" I usually don't argue..!

Yes that's exactly it mate, if I intend it as a stool I make sure there is a wider connection to the top to spread the load so to speak & usually use bolt type wood fixings, tables I tend to screw on in a more simple/easy manner the rest of the construction is the same but a lot does depend largely on what parts I have to hand

Coffee tables I occasionally make are all able to withstand a fat lad standing or even jumping on them on them as tested by 18 stone of chunky daft mate :D benches will take multiple fat lads for years

Stools/side tables have ended up in a few gardens, many a race paddock a few shed/mancaves & plenty of peoples homes I haven't heard of a breakage yet, metalwork does begin to corrode with constant outside use though if its only lacquered, primed painted & lacquered seems to last for years though

Might be prohibitively expensive and might not work in any event.....how about assembling all the metal bits and getting the whole lot powder coated to negate the rust issue on outside stuff? I think you can get clear powder coating.

Rust on outside stuff is an issue - I have an outside table that has a beautiful old cast iron Singer sewing machine base as the, er, base but I can't leave it in the patio as I know rust will leave an unmovable stain.

Just thinking like, and encouraging your venture. I got a set of bike wheels, powder coated locally by a firm on the cheap, when they had a bit of space in the oven and had the gun loaded up in black for another job....

Thanks for the input Andy, I had thought about powder coating & yes you can get clear, its not that expensive, the problem is it wont stay on smooth surfaces like bearing areas on cranks or lobes on cams so would need blasting first which ruins the contrast between cast & machined parts, the effect would be a reverse of what happens outside with just lacquer which tends not to completely cover the rough cast are areas no matter how I try,

A mate who had the very first stool has abused it for a few years now, its been left outside more often than not & stored in a damp shed, I saw it only a couple of weeks ago & offered to refinish it for him, he refused point blank as he likes the well worn slightly rusty look :nusenuse: cant please everyone I suppose !

I like the rusty look as well......that's why I bought the singer sewing machine base. Loved it rusty.

Got home from work a few days later and 'someone' had Hammerited it....

I wouldn't have minded so much if she had done it in an unusual colour like dark green or red.

Interesting the black Hammerite looks as good as the day it was applied about ten years ago. Which is annoying.
