Believe it or not,I have never ridden an injected Bird!! First rode a mates carby donkies ago..
He now lives in the far east..And obviously my own 1997 model..
There is now a decent looking 2005 model on the Bay of Plenty ..injected with the updated
dash...and I am tempted. Only 30 odd thousand on the clock, loads of life left in it.
Maybe its time to change my old bike for something a bit more new, possibly with a few improvements here
and there. There nothing wrong with my bike and I love it dearly but its 22 years old this year.
I havnt a problem with fuel injection and Cats in the exhaust( I have owned a few Honda X11s),was wondering if anyone on here made the jump and was it worth it...

I made a similar change from a 98 to 03 for no other reason than I fancied a change. And was seduced by the digital dashboard.

If your carb is ok then I wouldn't bother changing.

I'm with Andy, no point in changing for changing sake. I've had my Blackbird from new, 1998 and although I've owned other bikes as well as the Bird, I wouldn't change it.

I had a ‘98 carb from new and was forced to sell after about a year. I bought a ‘57 plate injection in about 2010 before I pissed off to live in Asia. I got rid of it just before I came home and I do not regret it. I want another ‘Bird but it’ll be a carbie.

noobie

Clueless in most things
I'd stick with the carbie and use the money you would have spent on upgrading to buy a fun bike that is nothing like the bird at all. sometimes when the bird has gone you regret it and then struggle to find one as good as you have sold.

Spot on!

I didn't have a (realistic) choice when I sold mine 20 years ago. I've tried and failed for a long, long time to find one as good as my original and failed miserably.

If you have a good carbie, hang on to it like it's the mother of your kids.

Why do you think I have a carby?
I have had them all, and can still have my choice

In my view going to the Mk II EFI is indeed a backward move!

Thanks lads........I suppose :(
I just fancied a bit of a change and I think that I must have itchy spanner fingers..
You all seem to be telling me ..The newer the Bird the worse the Bird..
Or the older the better....I just had it in my head that a newer bike would be just a bit
more polished and modern like ..Oh well...

I will admit to being biased I simply don't like the fuel injected birds, any of them, but would definitely never consider any of the early FI models, from reading on here & elsewhere those are the ones that suffer the most problems

no doubt someone will correct me if I am wrong but that's the way I view them, problematic !

If you want a change the badly, buy some different bodywork. Either get some shitty Chinese stuff and spray them a lairy colour or speak to Taffy and get a full set of OEM in a different colour. Either way, you get a change. Oh, er, and hang on to your original bodywork :D
