Difficult one, this. R#?
I used to smoke a fair bit when I was in my late teens and early twenties, I never seemed to suffer any long term consequences of the drug just a bit of lethargy and stupid giggling etc...
Unfortunately, Although I stopped smoking about nine years ago, my year younger brother who started at the same time didn't. He seems to have suffered quite severe mental health difficulties as a result and is to weak minded to quit. He is beginning to display what I can only describe as the early stages of multiple personallity disorder.
Although my family have managed to get him to stop smoking from time to time (with noticable improvements) he always returns to the substance.
He is 30 years old, just quit a well paid (?30k a year) job and has moved back to my parents home. Time is spent watching 12hrs of TV a day and smoking dope, depression is setting in. I have fallen out with him and we have not spoken since January (although I visit the house where he stays to visit my parents). I'm getting married in August and he was supposed to be the best man, now he's not even coming.
So,
The question is, would he be where he is today if he didn't smoke weed ? I'm 99% sure that he wouldn't. I know that mental health problems can hit anyone at any time but you notice a dramatic change (for the better) when he hasn't had any. I know it affects different people in different measures but I think that the potential damage is under estimated and for this reason and my personal experiences, I would prefer it not to be legalised. :dunno:
