Shoei X-Spirit users

Don't know if I'm right in doing this on here but if I'm in the wrong I apologise, and would Admin please remove the post.

The X-Spirit is just about the perfect helmet for me - fit, comfort, weight etc. - but I have major problems with misting, both the visor and my glasses (I don't like the pin-lock visor insert, it distracts and annoys me, and does not stop my glasses misting up). I had exactly the same problem with my previous X-ceed but fitting a Respro foggy cured it. Because of the 'Breath box' in the chin bar of the X-Spirit I cannot fit a 'Foggy' but the nice people at Shoei have made their own version - the AirMask3 - specifically for the X-Spirit, which would be great if the fu#kwits at Feridax had decided to import it, which they haven't.

So, I have ended up contacting the Shoei importers in the US who can supply them at $20.50 + $27:50 Shipping - about ?25 total. I'm going to get one anyway but is anyone else interested? I can put in a bulk order and presumably the cost would come down slightly because the shipping cost would be spread around.

Because I'm running to a schedule (Nurburgring trip is now 11 May) I really need to get the order off (e-mail) Monday night. So if anyone is interested please let me know before then.

Thanks,

John.

lazer do a flip front helmet and with the mouth guard it is a great helmet ,pity that they have stopped selling it with the guard thereby turning it into a useless bag of shite

Cant help about the helmet, but the wife has found something that may help with glasses misting up.

Its a cloth made by a company called 'CALOTHERM' and you can buy them in Opticians, BUT they are being fazed out so may be difficult to get hold of, wife reckons they are the dogs for anti misting on glasses. You will need to do your glasses every day (Just the same as cleaning em)

DO NOT get the calotherm spray, its crap!

I just lerve my X-Spirit........

What a brilliant helmet !!
The `pin-lock` inner shield prevents misting. I don`t see what problems you could have with it but, each to their own.
Have you tried opening the vents to allow air to flow through ?

Agree with you its a brilliant helmet  (same model by the way), the best I have ever worn, although I prefered the seat belt type fastening on my X-Ceed - and before anyone jumps in on the pros and cons, I'm not, nor ever will be a racer and its my preference ok. Having tried Shoei, Arai, HJC and X-Lite long term I definately have a Shoei shaped head (the XR-1000 and new shaped Raid 2 definately do not fit though - worrying)

Vents - can't ride without at least the chin bar one open because it mists up so badly and even then I need to crack the visor open at town speeds. As a consequence its bloody freezing in winter 8ree! and I went back to the X-Ceed.

The pin-lock works brilliantly on the area it covers, but as I said it doesn't stop my glasses misting and the seal just catches my peripheral vision. Again its a personal thing but I just don't get on with them - and I got two extra as frebies when I bought it :bang: .

Duncan, not a fan of flip fronts - too many horror stories from paramedic friends of them instantly becoming open face helmets on contact with the ground at speed. HJC do a 'Foggy' type insert on some of their range but the one I had on trial was too tight across the forehead and major headaches after about 50 miles.

Coddy, thanks for the suggestion. I can 'acquire' anti-mist stuff from work which is very good but I'm basically idle and keep forgetting to re-do it until usually sitting in traffic thinking 'Bu66er, can't see a lot' .

Have just purchased a light reactive insert to fit my Shark helmet. Not only does it do the job on the sunny (ha) days, but since fitting it i have not had one instance of fogging, and this was a helmet that i also had to keep open in town. Best money i have ever spent, after actually purchasing the Bird.

should've got the XR1000; no issues with misting even on track days.
Tab of Aquaseal Sea Drops (available at any good diving shop) on the old bins and they never mist either

It was one of them I was originally after, but they are a very odd fit. The correct size around my head sits too high up - my ears don't even fit in the cutouts, the next size up fits ok height wise but is too big around my head.

The Raid 2 is exactly the same although the original Raid is a good fit.

like me, you could've had it padded out to fit you. I wanted the X-Spirit, but they didn't do the paint job I wanted in the X-Spirit, so I got the 1000 & had it padded out by Shoei; perfect fit. Any quality dealer should've offered you the service! :dunno:
