Second set of wheels?

Having spent another Saturday afternoon visiting the tyre shop (flat front tyre for a change!) I'm seriously thinking of getting a second set of wheels.

Bearing in mind BB wheels do not have the reputation of being the strongest on the road, would you trust buying a spare set off flea bay?
Or go to a breaker that dismantles non crashed bikes or where you can see the bike before they are removed?
Any other options?.............excluding buying new!

Having scanned fleabay, prices seem to vary vastly, what is a 'sensible' price?

Since I will soon be back to the 200 miles per day commute the finish is not my major priority!

If you get a second set of wheels of fleabay, Eric, then have them blasted and powder coated. That way the beads will be sound and there'll be no danger of the tyres deflating unexpectedly (barring a puncture, of course!) Plus, you'll need to replace the bearings, but you'd know that everything is safe and sound. If you are doing a lot of miles and commuting every day then you'll have the peace of mind knowing that your wheels are good!

Price-wise I would have thought you'd be looking at a couple of hundred for a pair of straight wheels, IMHO.

Only way to be sure about the integrity of second hand wheels that come without history is to get them x-rayed. Small price to pay for safety and peace of mind.
