Given the Kebab Man's malaise at the weekend, what can we do to "pre-scrub" new tyres before venturing out on to the Queens Highway ? [ooo err - cue even more abuse]

Anyone any bright ideas?

I usually stick it on the center stand in 1st gear and use a kitchen scourer all over for 10mins I suppose you could use wet and dry ect would do the same job....

cheers

Scrubbing in new tyres

I do the same as Richard if I need grip in a hurry seems to work okay.

But usually just take it easy and lean a bit more each day and since I do 160k's plus (100miles) per day it only takes a few days of sensible ridding then it's fun fun fun.

So you don't bother scrubing in new fronts then Richard???

I had a new front fitted last week, but my approach is the same for both front & rear. Ride steadily avoiding any sudden reactions (if possible) and upon completing over 100 miles (after a couple of hours- "hard to believe that ain't it Richard?") and with warm tyres I head to a roundabout I know. This roundabout happend to be just outside a huge chemicals HO on an industrial estate & get's no use after 6pm. So, you can actually go round the wrong way round and scrub both sides, by gradually increasing speed and lean angles until the pegs touch down.

whats wrong

with doing 100 sensible miles to scrub it in???????????

What are you lot on................?????

100 miles is nothing just to srub it in sensibly then you can ride like you want afterwards.

Alot less hassle than srubbing it with sandpaper/scourers ,just go out and enjoy riding and srub it in at the same time.

People, tell me you're joking! You actually rub sandpaper or the like over your tyres? - in my opinion that's being a tad over-paranoid..........a real road with 223kg of bike plus the weight of the rider going thru the tyres does the job a lot better!

Just take it sensible and easy - no heavy handedness with the throttle, brakes or your steering inputs. Run 'em up and down a dual carriagway or a motorway for a bit first off so that you know that the centres are OK - gradually increase braking power in a straight line to give yourself the confidence that they will actually grip if you need to stop quick.

Then I tend to just find a quiet bit of road and gently roll her left to right everso smoothly gradually increasing lean angle.

Remember as long as you increase lean bit by bit you should never have a contact patch of entirely unscrubbed rubber.................

What's wrong with the old method of scrubbing in a new rear tyre ?

A f%ck off great big rolling burnout:yo:

as for the front - just ride the damn bike and stop gettin' all poncy about the whole thing.
Doin' the carefull miles on a new set of boots for ya bike is part and parcel of the whole thing.
Stop ya bleetin' and just do the milage:rant: :}

Tyre man told me.............

.............that you shouldn't give new tyres stick from day one partly because of the slippery mould releasant but also to let the various belts and layers to bed down. He told me the gentler you were initially the longer the tyre lasts you later on............Food for thought ?
