Couple of years back did a tour on my VFR, went via Lockerbie then across to the west coast, couple of island hops then up thru Glencoe to Fort William, then back down the West coast taking in Dumfries and Galloway, beautiful and often missed part of Scotland. Depends on how far you want to venture North, but up around Ullapool the beaches and scenery is....well....awesome. :yo:

we usualy go up to gretna and west through dumfries follow the coast through up to portpatrick exellent seafood in the town and a nice campsite up on the cliff with a ruind castle on the edge of the cliff .then up the coast through troon and ayre to largs and take the ferry over to tarbet. then up to oban for the nite then up to fort william past ben nevis (there is a cable car if you dont mind hights )back west to malaig up past the isle of sky where you will see the castle where i think they shot some off the scenes for braveheart just before the sky bridge then on up to ullapool (best fish and chips in the univers) then if you want to see loch ness you can cut accross to inverness from there (but id give loch ness a bodyswerve its totaly geared up for the yanks tartan every where cardboard cutouts of mell gibson in a kilt that sort of thing )inverness is a good nite out tho but itl be great we,ll be back there this summer at some point

You could go to Stirling Castle then on to St Andrew's. Moving up to Pitlocharie (spelt wrong) north to Fort George then into Inverness. Trip out to Collouden then down the west side of Loch Ness to Invararie Castle. Through Fort William to Glasgow.
If you had time you could pop into Dunedin for lunch.

Day 2
Have a rest.

Note: There is a lovely duel carriage way heading north from Stirling up to Pitlocharie. You need to watch for the rozzers. They knicked a friend of mine (Met Pol) doing 77mph. Very little traffic on a dry sunny day.

I love Scotland. It has a lot of superb scenery.

Thats the A9 full of speed traps all the way to Inverness best avoided if you fancy nipping on.

As for the roads up the West caost  biking nirvana when you get the weather, a few of us were up to Ullapool last month and the sun was splitting the sky it was superb.
If heading up from down sarf I'd hug the west coast till Gourock then get the ferry to Dunoon and head for Inverurie then over the mountain to the A85 head to Tyndrum then up through Glen Coe to Fort William keep on the A82 past Spean Bridge till Invergarry then A87 and on up to Skye or head up the A890 to to Achnasheen and on to Ullapool via Gairloch along the coast.
