I bought a Garmin Nuvi 360(meant for a car) as i wanted one with an earphone socket that i could plug into my bike intercom.Worked a treat when we went touring in Germany earlier in the year. It's an old model now but there are plenty of bluetooth sat navs out there.I bought a sat nav bag from Hein Gericke, only about ?15,kept the sat nav dry in some really heavy downpours.Only thing i would advise is getting a 12v socket fitted to your bike to keep the sat nav charged up as the battery life on the sat nav unit isn't that great, well on mine anyway.

Echo that, Garmin every time

Its got to be Garmin, simply the best. Been using Garmin Zumo 550 for a few years. Waterproof, Bluetooth, autoanswer phone calls, easy to program, good database of fuel stations, hotels, food outlets etc.

Two best tips

But a stainless headstock mounting bracket from "LUAP" on e bay that goes through the headstock arounf ?45

Take an allen key for the battery, it occasionally freezes and the only way to get it back is to remove the battery to reboot it from cold "simples"

PS to bookmark where you are now just double press the bike icon on the screen - will then let you type description of where you are in, ie Mistresses house etc etc.

Enjoy! Grant

I use a tom tom one with power supplied from battery with a RAM mount.
Not cheap, but cheaper than buying another sat nav specifically for the bike. Its never got wet cos if its raining, just go in the car !!!!

Yes, it has to be a Garmin. I've been using a 550 for a couple of years and have a bluetooth helmet insert to receive the instructions from it. All this wank about big screens and HD navigation - totally irrelevant on a bike. Who would ride looking down at a screen and away from the road anyway? Stopped at a junction I just need to know whether it's left or right, not what's 300 yards away on a big screen.

A couple of mods I have done though - the Telferizer mount from Bob Telfer places the unit much better (between the bars) than using the clutch reservoir mount.
And I bought the replacement bevelled finger screw on ebay that locks the unit in instead of their fiddly tool operated thing.
When I take it off the bike pr wash things, I stick a small waterproof bag bought from a camping shop over the mounting part to keep it dry.
Get your speed camera downloads from pocketgpsworld. ?20 for the year / unlimited devices not the ripoff Garmin cyclops deal.

Last thing, when it freezes as another poster mentions here (which it does) the bottom right and top left buttons seem to do an instant crash reset without needing to pull the battery.

I have a Peaklife motorbike GPS running the IGO8 navigation software. It performs brilliantly and was less than a third of the typical cost of the TomTom and Garmin offerings.

I'm very happy with it. The software comes from these people.

The SD flash card that comes with the UK units cover UK, ROI and Europe. I'll double check how much of Europe it covers. The unit also works well in the car.
