They're home now, Ryanair actually picked them up and they arrived into Manchester in the wee small hours (12.40) and the school by 02:00

Not far from me!

According to one of the party they were behind a woman with no passport, staff were dealing with her then closed the gate
And according to Ryanair they were late and no record of what has been reported about someone trying to board with no passport. Unless they lost it in the airport there is no way you would get to the gate without a passport.

I think little Jonny made up the lady without a passport bit so they wouldn't get a bollocking for missing the last call for the flight because they were buggering about in Burger king from their mum and dad

Also occurs that whoever was supervising the trip might be doing a bit of arse covering?

But who knows?

I think Ryanair did in the end accept some responsibility, no way otherwise they'd have sent an aircraft to pick them up.

My experience has been if you're told a large group of 40 is running late you'd hold the aircraft quite a while for them.

However that was before compulsory compensation for flight delays existed.
Waiting for 40 might have meant paying compensation to the other 150.
