I usually just turn up and some are there before me and some arrive after. Depends how close to kick off I arrive.

That’s the silly version of rugby that you northern monkeys play. I’m talking about the proper game, rugby union.

Yep, local club is Rugby Union (even played by some semi northern teams)

3rd team won their game!

Rugby is a game for hooligans played by gentlemen

football is a game for gentlemen played by hooligans.

Imagine if footballers had to respect the referee and his decisions the same as a rugby player - it would soon be five-a-side at least

OK so the dust has settled now so I can ask....WTF went wrong...? I would've put money on England to win.
I've not seen the match as we were away for the weekend. I've only read the news. Is the game worth watching on catchup....or was it that bad...?

It’s most definitely worth watching.

In my view, the English made the same mistakes as we did. In other words, instead of playing their own game they tried to play the Bokke’s game. By the time Wales learned that lesson, there was only about ten minutes of the match remaining. Within ten minutes of the game kicking off, I personally could see it was only going to go one way.

I’ve never known losing footballers refuse to wear their runners up medals.

FA Cup final at the old Wembley, many years ago. I don’t recall when or which teams were involved but I’m fairly sure I was still in school (I left in 1984). One of the players collecting his losers’ medal made a gesture as if to throw it away. It wasn’t a hugely exaggerated action, like these pretentious twats of today would have done, but it was done nonetheless. I never thought much of it until yesterday when I saw, and subsequently read about, a couple of the English players refusing theirs. I think it’s much ado about nothing. They were clearly bitterly disappointed; upset with themselves feeling like they’d let the side down and the tens of thousands of fans who’d flown halfway across the globe to support them, never mind the millions watching at home. I felt then as I did all those years ago: who can blame them?

I always taught my children & now teach my Grandchildren that when competing in any activity there are winners & losers & to be a good winner you also have to accept defeat in good grace, no matter how bad you are feeling, swallow your pride, congratulate the winner, step back & let them celebrate their victory.

You can't do that...! Where will we get the next generation of snowflakes...?

At the end of the day a third/fourth place match in any sport is a waste of time.

Nobody wants it.

Agreed and the English team did nothing wrong in that respect. They applauded the Bokke as a collective and every England player subsequently congratulated each of their opponents (as far as the television footage showed), as did the coaching staff.

The only thing a few English players were ‘guilty’ of was not wearing their runners-up medals. And I’ll say it again: I have no problem with that. They did nothing wrong.

I reckon they should have worn their Silver medals with pride and also out of respect to the tournament hosts and organisers. It was a proper game of rugby, no nastiness or overly controversial decisions. We were beaten fair and square. Virtually the entire team removed their medals immediately after stepping off the platform, no doubt following Farels example?
