Rust spots on pipe?

Anyone had a problem with what appear to be rust spots on their pipes where the cat is located? About 4 weeks ago I discovered these rust coloured spots on top of the right side cat just in front of the muffler. It took ages to polish off and all has been fine until I noticed these spots back again last night in the same place. It almost looks like something has been sprayed/splattered on the cat but I cannot think of anything that would cause this.

There are no leaks/holes in the rear brake lines located on top of the swingarm that run past the pipe so I dunno. Any ideas guys?

Just a thought :dunno: , have you some sort of tyre sealant in your front tyre ?, if you have, it sprays around a bit before it seals a puncture. Have a look around front mudgard area to see if there is any more traces of it.
If you have (tyre sealant) don't admit it, or you will never hear the end of it :rolleyes:

i would not worry about it, as the famous saying goes, they all do that sir. at least my first set did. i guessed it was caused by the heat from the catalytic converter which actually burns the outer part of the pipe from the inside. they actually do get ouite stained come the end and you give up trying to clean them.
funny enough my second set are still as new but they are still in the wrappers as a set of cans were fitted from new to get rid of the cats. :}

It could be the very rare Australian rust beetle, it crawls into exhausts on a night, and shits, and apparently its shit is very corrosive, what you need to do if you leave your bike standing is to get some anti rust beetle net and place it over your exhausts.

They all do it

Hi OzCrow,
Mine's just the same. Wire wool with some Autosol or chrome cleaner and some elbow grease will get it off.
All those poofters that say there's don't do that, obviously don't ride hard enough to get the cans hot. :yo:

its low speed that causes it...not enough air flow to cool the pipes...try crusing at 50mph or more :lol:

You've got to get it welded then otherwise it will just spread
