I posted a cheque to a company yesterday morning with a 2nd class stamp, I had to phone the company this morning about something and I was told they had received my cheque, so hats off to the post office.

I can post parcels to the Isle of Man and to the Outer Hebrides and they often get there next day.
Post a first class letter from Havant to Portsmouth (6 miles apart) and it often takes longer.

Had to go in to the main Post Office in Peterborough City centre today to send a parcel for Mrs L. There used to be a large PO here but it closed a few years ago, being replaced by a much smaller PO in premises that used to be a stationery shop, not much bigger than an average front room. That then closed & the PO is now tucked away in the back of WH Smiths.

Anyway, City centre post office with three counters (four if you count the 'Business only' counter) at 1.15pm and only one counter was open. There were two additional 'self service' counters, one of which worked but you couldn't use it for parcels as there wasn't a member of staff to give your parcel to (as the sign told you to). I stayed in the queue as there was only 5 people in front of me but it still took 20 minutes to get served.

They don't exactly do themselves any favours.

You obviously didn't give your postie a tenner at Xmas.

In this case the lady on the counter was really pleasant it was me that was fairly grumpy after a 3 mile walk in the cold
