Road Rage.....

Not the usual kind.....I need to have a rage about the roadworks round here. They're EVERYWHERE :bang:

The main road through one town is shut for 8 weeks. 8 WEEKS :dunno: All the through traffic is diverted onto the road I use, so it's incredibly busy.....so what do they do? Decide to dig great stretches of it up to lay broadband cables. Endless queues at the temporary lights. Journies are taking twice as long.

To add insult...they've been getting ready to patch the country lanes round our village all year. They marked all the patches in the spring....the paint got washed off before they came, so they marked them again in the summer. Ditto. They started work on them last week. The paint had gone again, so they had to spend another day wandering up n down with a soggy map and a spray can, before they could start work. The gang digs up a few patches, marks them with cones, then comes back the next day to fill them. When all the machinery's there, you can't get past unless they move everything out of the way into a passing place. Can take ages....and somehow, they manage to make you feel guilty for interrupting their work :t

Grrrrrrrrrr!

Anyway, rant over. Feel better now. Thank you

What amazes me is what happens in France !
All the times I have ridden there I can only remember seeing cones once.. and that was round an accident !
The roads are, in the main, wonderfully maintained.. yet all the repairs seem to be done in the dead of night.
Can you imagine the indignant outcry if it was suggested to a brit road gang ?

Get on to the Highways Inspector for the area - phone the Council - they will give you a contact number - Cable Companies are notorious for just turning up and digging - roadspace has to be booked these days. The Inspector would not have granted permission for further digs if he has a road closure in the area if those digs were on the traffic re-route.
