Realistic?

Just read this article. Somewhat an unrealistic trip I think. Who would drive with no aircon or radio on and how many times did they have to stop to recharge!

I'm not anti electric.... Driven several cars now and the performance I think is outstanding and definitely the way forward but tests like this.... They need to be real..... Put a family of 4 with young and the luggage for a weeks holiday in the car then do the test

About as realistic as most car manufacturers claims on vehicle mileage.

Don’t know if any of you lot watch Auto Mondial on Sunday mornings - there was an interesting bit on hydrogen powered cars - didn’t appreciate Toyota already have one on sale. Can’t remember the economy figures but they were mighty impressive, which is just as well bearing in mind how few places there are to fill up.

The new Merc C Class range includes a two litre diesel:yikes: with electric assistance producing almost 300bhp and a real world economy as tested of almost 200mpg.

My new Panzer is classed as a MHEV because she has a small electric motor hidden somewhere under the bonnet. There's no real control over it, it just kicks in when it thinks the extra power is needed or whatever. Urban driving and I'm seeing well over 45mpg, which is pretty damn reasonable for an 8 speed automatic, 3 litre, twin turbo diesel weighing the thick end of two tonnes.

The Audi SR6 works the other way.
It shuts 4 of the 6 cylinders when not needed.

I’ve just hired a car for the rest of the week while I’m on holiday. A Seat Ateca petrol. Quite a nice little hatch in its way, when you are pootling along it goes onto 2 cylinders

A mate of mine had a 2 cylinder Seat somethingorother. He said it was really, really fuel efficient until you floored it, then the turbo on each cylinder kicked in and it went like a shit of a shovel!

I’ll give it a bit of heavy boot tomorrow and see.

My VW has ACT and that's 2018,.................. but its a 1.4 TSi @150 bhp. !!
The only way to tell its running on two is to look at the dash.

I only realised it was a 1.5 today when I checked the reg. details. I’m amazed how well it drives at only 1500rpm, it seems almost diesel-like, then when you boot it it really flies. I’m very impressed with it so far. I can’t see it returning 58mpg though. But I’m only doing lane work at the moment. 2nd, 3rd, 4th gears mainly for now.

I have a 1.2 petrol Leon.
Quite sprightly for what it is.
Son and daughter have tanks, don't know what the fixation is.

Neither of them do much long journey driving.
