NIce luggage

I know it aint everyones choice, but I'm looking at getting a set of Givis for a couple of long trips this summer (eh!) so how good are those Fodder ? Any recommendations on the best places to get them, ie cheapest ! I know there are a few on the Internet, but in case you've managed to find the cheapest place in the world to get 'em I would like to know !!

There's now't up with that garden! It's lovely in the summer, it's just a pity that the builders are in the process of trashing it

Anyway, Russ, the top box is excellent, I've run it all winter for work and not a drop of water has got in. The panniers have yet to be put to the test. I've run with Givi kit for years now, its never let in water or broken. The only reservation I have is that the 'Keyless' panniers only have a three digit combination for the opening panel. I've not tried with these but usually it takes me less than 3 mins to open something with three digits. It's easy enough though to fit an additional internal lock to make life a bit harder for petty pilferers (lets face it though, if someone really wants to, they will get into anything).

Did a bit of shopping around but prices were much the same all over, this kit ended up coming from M&P. If you are going to buy some, make sure you get the right colour code off the Givi web site. I ended up phoning Givi UK to get the correct codes and ordering instructions for the dealer (half the dealers I talked to didn't have a bloody clue what I wanted or how to order it - stunning stupidity!)

Do you get any ..............

...instability with your luggage fitted.

It;s the same as my set (less the top box) and I still find that the bike weaves gently from side to side if I'm pushing on a bit.

My bike has done this ever since I've had it.

Strange how your bike does not seem as wide as mine at the back, but the luggage is the same! Mines the big bummed blackie in the foreground :}

Mike

Your bike weaves???

I still find that the bike weaves gently from side to side if I'm pushing on a bit.

Er.....at what sort of speed does your bike begin to weave at?
I used Oxford Sport luggage (soft stuff) last year when I rode down to Valencia and experienced nothing unsual.

Cheers Guys

They certainly look the business, I'm off the the Scottish Bike SHow in a couple of weeks time so I'm hoping to pick up some bargains there, at least I know what to look for now.

Mmm.....no instability as yet, but I've only run up to 90mph with them so far. At what speed do you start to weave?

Well it used to start ....

at around 50 mph and got considerably worse as I went faster.

After a lot of investigations and repairs / adjustments etc, managed to push this up to about 110 mph.

It is nowhere near as bad as it used to be, but it did take a lot of messing around to cure the wayward Kylie. A lot of helpful advice came via this forum  so an offical big thanks to all those who helped keep her on the straight and narrow.

But I do still get this weave, and when I see other 'Birds go past at speed and appear to be rock steady, I do get a little pi**ed off that mine won't do the same.

But for now I'll live with it.

Got to admit the only time I feel a bit of a weave with mine is when I've got the top box rather well loaded and the front tyre is starting to wear down, but even then it's only for a small speed range (20-35 mph). Goes away if I apply the brakes so it's got to be a balance thing.

Anyone tried those really small givi boxes as paniers, the ones that have a lid on the top rather than splitting in 1/2? I've wondered about those for driving in London rather than having the top box configuration.

I put a pair of those small boxes on my bird with a 52 litre one on top, great through traffic cos they are so narrow, about the width of the mirrors. As for speed they don't seem to make any diffrence ive had them at over 170. The one thing that did make the bike weave with panniers on was when I had a set of avon azzaros fitted the bike was all over the pace and on overrun at 50 it went into a tank slapper . The other good thing about the side boxes is when the bike gets knocked over they save the cans.
