Drove a borrowed Ford Sierra Cosworth 4x4 rally car a few times in my younger days on special stages, gravel, tarmac & sticky mud, great fun & if I'd had a few more pennies, I might have taken up the sport a little more seriously.
I remember flying down this tarmac straight with a 90 left bend into gravel at the end. There was a chicane halfway down the straight & as I steered oyt of it, I heard this loud PING. didn't have a clue until I got to the fravelsection then as I turned in, the back overtook the front & off I wsent spinning across the grass.
When we got out I realised why - the loud PING was the rear o/s wheel comming off. the car was that tight, I didn't feel any diffference in handling uwhile I was going straignt. I'm told I was going around 90mph on three wheels before I started to brake.
Sadly, I didn't get my competition licence that day as I failed to finish - then the money ran out
