Here is a pic with the bike at working height. The deck is wide enough to take my Thunderace when its on the Abba stand. Total cost was about ?65, although I already had the car jack and the price was pushed up cos I went for galvanising instead of painting.

Hi Lumpy

The design was taken from an article in Classic Bike Guide. The original used a checkerplate deck which he had lying around. I went for 3/4 ply which I prefer because it can be screwed into for mounting bench grinders/vices etc and won't be too expensive if it has to be replaced.

Looks seriously useful Roy...

... but I notice you've got short vertical legs on the upper deck... presumably to get your jack under, so how do you get the bike up onto the deck...?

or do you use some ramps which we can't see in the pic..?

Yes Rob the short legs (just like me really.. thats before Mikew makes a funny comment) are to clear the jack and at the moment I'm using the chunk of ply in the left of the pic to run the bikes onto the deck. I am going to fabricate a more perminant jobbie but couldn't wait to start using the bench.

Grey Wolf... I do have the article scanned but the files are rather large and the system will time me out if I try to download. The scanned article is three pages of 1.2mb size so unless one of the forum moderators can post them I'm stuffed.
