Rain Suits

Been thinking about investing in a couple of rainsuits for a while now, Even tho we have the textile jackets and trousers that are supposed to be waterproof do you think its worthwhile getting an oversuit as well ..
We have been lucky enough on our travels to have only been caught out in a few showers but what with the varying weather this year and our trip to Assen comming up, which is not exactly renouned for its sunshine lol are they worth the investment ??

we have these textile jackets and trousers (see pic)
and Im looking at getting a set of these..

Get decent Textile kit.

I have a Dainese textile suit,, 100% water proof,, one piece is ok but a pain in the arse stopping and putting it on,, sidi do a good one piece,, but don't get one to go over a textile suit,, seems a bit Irish to me. either one or the other.
you pay for good quality kit IMHO.

if the

textile stuff is reasonably young why bother with an oversuit....pointless waste of money and even if the textiles are years old reproofing is a better bet. Besides you get just as wet inside with an over suit from body heat and condensation.

I get the girlfriend to take me places in a Peugeot 206 oversuit if it's at the weekend.

Back to my question... Ive been very happy with the Akito clothing and I get your points about not being required with decent textile gear ... but I was thinking more along the lines of a little extra protection especially as they weigh next to nothing etc etc.. We all know what its like to get caught in a downpour :bang:
Ive also noticed that a fair few touring bikers have them also, even tho they have textile gear :dunno:
If you have to 'set off' in the rain, wouldnt have thought that they would be too much trouble to slip on before you go ???

mite as well get some just to slip over our civvies while we watch the racing at Assen lol

Anyone else on here use them over textile gear ???

Edit : sounds like a few more peeps could have done with a set for the bash :p

I understand your logic. However, a good textile suit will stand the ravages of the weather no matter how hard it rains, if water does get in then it is due to bad design. I did a trip to Brno a couple of years ago and it rained and I mean rained from the off in Calais until we arrived in Cologne some 8 hours later. (worst ride in bad weather I have ever experienced). Only things wet were boots and gloves.

I would say however that if your body is cold due to a sudden drop in temperature and it can happen when the weather changes, then an oversuit is a good way to stop the loss of heat and to keep the wind chill out. If you are cold then you cannot concentrate on riding and that is dangerous. Which is the reason I carry suits on the bike when touring. Got to keep SWMBO happy as well as myself

Still kickin' it!
Dave...Don't be spending a fortune, buddy. :t An inexpensive (cheap! :p) one-piece should be fine. If you get a thick, heavy oversuit you'll be sweatin' yer nadgers off gettin' it on - "ditto" when yer on the bike - and "ditto" again, when yer strugglin' to get the bugger off! Save space, weight and time by gettin' somethin' compact an' bijou, mate! :yo:

What you really need are 100% waterproof gloves and boots - if you find some of those, let me know...

...(and about 5 million others would be interested too, I reckon!) :}

...Roll on, Assen! R#?

...Ev'ry day...and in ev'ry way...it's gettin' betta - an' betta... :p

...Garmins are only subject to "operator error" - and there were (ahem!) one or two of those, :wank: but, all in all....

...it's a brilliant piece of kit! :yo:

This is a lie....

:k

We both use a Sidi unlined one piece (gets a little crowded but hey, saves money) and on the rare occasions we've used them they work well and come in their own bag that goes around a tank bag or behind a top box.

In fact one of these...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SIDI-waterproof-motorcycle-rain-suit-one-piece-XL-BIG_W0QQitemZ260122995388QQihZ016QQcategoryZ122233QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Think you are going to be pretty hot in one tho mate, bad enough over the top of leathers, but in textiles...

By the time you've got the bugga on you'll weigh a half stone less from the sweat loss...

We've given up taking them now, prefer a 2 piece rain suit, less bulk, use the jacket to take the chill off, or for showers, and a lot quicker to put on.

Trust me, if a suit is a pain to put on, you'll hope it's just a shower and not bother and by the time you realise it ain't gonna stop, you're soaked...

Try reproofing what you've got? I'm sure Sharon would turn a hose on you to test it....

:p

Oh and version 9 works well, when you have a Quest that works....

:bang:

don't buy frank thomas aqua pack, at the momment it has a 50% failure rate

generally hien gericke do good wet suits or rukka, so get a good waterproof set and don't waste time on an over suit

Years ago I had a Frank Thomas aqua pack & it never let the rain in although it was a bastard if I needed to stop at a shop as I had to unzip it all the way down to get to my pockets + I could never get it back into the bumbag

If its any help to you then the newest top flight Rukka gear is ?1799 for the set.
Cheap I thought.
I personally wouldnt bother with an oversuit for most of the reasons already stated. There is also one other reason to take into consideration. Putting one of these suits over an existing jacket could reduce your flexibility on the bike if its a bit tight in some areas (eg round the shoulders) thus reducing your movement and if its too large you will be flapping about all over the place.
Better to go and get some Nikwax waterproofer and upgrade your jackets when the time comes. IMHO

You can all laugh if you like but a crew of us went to the north west this year and before we left we all went to lidl's and bought the 2 piece wet suit for ?12.99. Ive had frank thomas's before but we all thought that the lidl's ones were great - really good valve for money. They are high waisted trousers and a jacket that comes down over your arse, High zip legs. colours blue and black with bright silver strips. Well worth a looks:yo:
