Oxley makes some good points but is ignoring the fact that similar machines and large packs make good exciting racing we all want to watch and Dorna wants because it creates revenue

Two things he says I do agree with, the age limit needs to be raised as no 14 year old no matter how talented can make a honest judgement on the safety of the sport he is involved in and secondly the FIM need to take more responsibility for on track safety and force sensible rules on to Dorna

I don't have the answers when it comes to stopping these kids dying, an adult, sy 18+ should be able to make their own concious decisions but I am not sure a 14-15 year old is capable of that and its obvious their parents/managers wont make the decisions for them

“Start ‘em young."

”What was once a philosophy (in terms of sports development, based upon the “Nurture Principle”) has evolved to become a “force-feed”, business-based approach to increasing participation. That mind-set is focused, now, upon 6-12 year-olds in contact and non-contact sports of all types, regardless of aptitude, recognisable expertise or validated experience.

Increased participation, in conjunction with evermore competition under evermore constrictive rules for participation and ever-greater demands for perfection leads, ultimately, to higher profits for the ruling bodies. More money. That’s the driver for all sports, now. No such thing as “amateurs” anymore. It’s a money machine, and kids are now a commodity, just like the rest of humanity.

With the exception of specialist or specific, sports-dedicated media, not many take notice of the “force-feed” approach until somebody dies as a result of their participation in their chosen sporting activity: that is, provided sufficient numbers of the aforementioned media take the time and trouble to mention the passing of someone whose main motivation was to realise their dream of glory: but they must first strive to be “sponsored by…” or they can never realise their dream.

In the eyes of the financiers, no loss of life is sufficient to deflect them from their goal: as long as that life is not theirs or that of heirs. As they say: “Life goes on. And as long as it’s my life that goes on, I don’t give a fuck about anyone, or anything else.”
