Ahh I see your point, I hadn't thought it through properly. What I am now thinking is that I will just bridge the high beam feed wire to the low beam input? That way it will still switch between low and high beam when the lights are on and also flash the headlights using the flasher when the lights are off. Probably got my reasoning all wrong again but I am going to give it a try and will let you know. If not I think I may be purchasing one of those looms. Trouble is, like you said earlier, once I start I have to finish it as I will have buggered up the existing headlight. Well here we go, going to make a start in a minute providing other family events don't get in the way.....

OK, As I am still unsure, I phoned a friend of mine who knows about these things and he said my idea will not work due to when the low beam is on but not the high beam it will feed voltage back through the high beam live wire and will have to be connected via a relay. So basically I should have listened to you in the first place and purchased your loom. So now all is postponed until I get the loom. My friend recons he could rig up a loom but it would cost me to have him do it and wouldn't be any cheaper than buying the loom you have. Also your loom has a capacitor in it. Can I ask, when you have your headlights off and you use the flasher button, do the headlights flash instantly or does the ballast have to warm up before they flash properly?
Thanks again for your help

The capacitor is there to keep an even supply when switching between inputs - in actual fact it's not required because the BB always keeps the low beam on when switching to high beam so there will always be constant power (the loom is originally designed for a H4 bulb which would switch between beams). The real use of the loom is purely to allow the flasher switch to work with headlights off for MoT purposes! When flashing with headlights off there's instant light, not absolute full power but still as much light as most halogen systems.

Ian: ah, now I see who you were asking for photos fl4g71, I was at cross purposes there. I'll try & get a few shots in the next couple of days, in terms of the look of the install it doesn't look especially different until you look closely at the headlight unit and spot the projectors. The light output is rather pleasant though... There aren't any really visible hot spots, just light everywhere in the focussed pattern. So going to high beam doesn't add any brightness, it just covers an even bigger area with light.

Done!

Well all done at last! I had a bit of a nightmare getting the headlight flasher to work when the lights were switched off but got there in the end. Just waiting for it to get dark so I can set the beam up.
Really pleased with the way they look, especially the side light 'halo ring'.
Uploaded some pictures to photo bucket link below.
Thanks madlandrover for your advice.

All I can say is WOW what a difference! I recon they are twice as bright as the original standard bulbs and give a really good spread of light. If anyone is thinking of doing this mod then don't hesitate, its worth the fiddling around.
I have uploaded a couple more photos of the bike now that its dark, showing the brightness of the lights. When I put the headlamp back together I marked the adjusters so I didn't have to adjust them much at all. Its got its mot next week so will be interesting to see what they make of it and if it passes, can't see why not.
