Pressure washers

Any of you use one? Thinking of a Kärcher K4 but not sure I want to spunk up £200 when I’ve managed with a hose, sponge and bucket for the past 30 years.

The chap that took the dent out of my bonnet recommended cleaning my four-wheeled Panzer with snow foam and pressure washer. Looks like it’ll save a load of time, if the claims have any substance to them.

Snow foam is good but you’ll still need to do a conventional wash after. It mainly loosens the crud. Buy a tinpot K2 for the job.

Loads of stuff on YouTube about washing cars, mainly revolve around not getting swirls on the paintwork which involves the use of two buckets.

I generally only use the pressure washer when the car is particularly dirty - with many layers of wax on the paint the crap normally comes off pretty easily with just the hose.

Life is made much easier by investing time and money into good products. Wheel wax is awesome - I find I just need to mist the wheels with the hose, give them a spray of Muc Off (amazing stuff), leave for a minute then a blast with the hose brings them up lovely.

The worst thing to do is wash the car and then not dry it off - tap water leaves a lot of residue.

Using good products is important - a good wax is expensive but a small tub lasts for ages. As is a copious supply of microfibre towels for drying the car (Screwfix sell good value massive packs of small ones, but I would recommend a couple of large ones for drying). You can wax a car in two ten minute sessions (leave for half an hour after applying before buffing) with modern products so it can easily be part of a normal wash - make sure you get a wax that can be reapplied on top of itself - some don't.

I use the Dodo Juice Supernatural range of products and would recommend them. Monza do starter kits that are good value. The Dodo shampoo is quite pricey but one bottle lasts me over a year, including snow foaming maybe half a dozen times.

Ps using a pressure washer won't save time when washing your car - probably adds to it if anything!

Don't know if the K4 is on wheels - if it isn't I would recommend getting one that is. And double check that it has the facility of adding shampoo for snow foam - many don't!

And while thinking about it, when you put the shampoo in the bottle on the pressure washer dilute it with hot water....

K4 is on wheels, yes it does have foam/soap facility.

My car is reasonably easy to clean anyway because I had the GuardX applied before delivery. I also use BMW's own cleaning products; their alloy cleaner is amazing stuff! spray on, rinse off before it dries and 90% of the cack comes straight off with no agitation required.

The only reason the pressure washer entered my head was because of the recommendation from the dent fixer and if anyone knows a thing or two about car bodywork care, it's those boys

During my clear out last year a gave away an industrial jet wash thing. No idea of the make, but hold it on concrete for a few seconds and it made a hole !
I was given a little karcher that does it all..

I'm beginning to think that the K2 might be good enough for what I want it for, as Me said. Sometimes, less is more.

I've had a K2 for a few years and it's plenty strong enough for car cleaning and de gunking the paths/patio etc.

You ever used that snow foam, John? I've seen a few videos which claim that it's spray on, rinse off, wipe down, job done.

As for the K2 and K4, there's 20 bar difference, with the K2 having 110 and the K4 130. For washing the car and bikes, that sort of difference is prolly academic.

I have indeed, and for it to really work as designed ie cleaning the car without any physical contact, the car needs to be fully detailed and be waxed to within an inch of it's life, that way the snow foam does it's job and the pressure washer cleans off the residue dirt, the for the real anal car cleaner a leaf blower to dry it off.

In practice I use a microfiber cloth once the snow foam has been applied. The quality of the snow foams vary somewhat as does the snow foam applicator.

So basically, the snow foam is indeed a pre-wash?

Which snow foam have you found to be the best at the job of shifting the cack? Is the Karcher foam applicator good enough?

Pre wash, well depends how dirty the car is to start, I've had good results without a cloth and elbow grease. I favour autoglym products always had good results. Carplan demon is pants imho. The karcher snow foam applicator is fine.
