POSITIVE FIRST TEST FOR NEW WORLD ENDURANCE CHALLENGERS
The all-new BMP-ELF-99 Racing Team made their on-track debut this week, as former World Endurance Champion Matthieu Lagrive and Damian Cudlin successfully put the team's Honda CBR1000 through it's paces, during a two-day test at the Le Mans circuit in France.

Bitterly cold weather meant conditions were far from ideal for testing, but Lagrive and Cudlin were able to match the pace of the top teams during the test, despite the BMP-ELF-99 CBR1000 not running a full complement of kit race parts first time out.

After working together with Cudlin and the team on the opening day to improve the overall set-up of the bike, Lagrive ran consistently at the top of the timesheets during the second day, with Cudlin just three tenths of a second behind his vastly experienced new teammate.

Having made significant improvements to the CBR1000 throughout the two-day test, the BMP-ELF-99 Racing Team are looking forward to returning to Le Mans, with two full race specification machines, for a second two day test from 30-31 March, at which both riders are confident of making further improvements.

The BMP-ELF-99 Racing Team will announce their full rider line-up for the Le Mans 24-Hour Race ahead of this second Le Mans test.

Matthieu Lagrive

"I've not ridden a bike for around five months, so it was good to get back on track and back up to speed at Le Mans. It took me a while to find my rhythm again, but by the end of the two days I felt confident enough to start pushing harder. The bike definitely has a lot of potential; although we don't yet have all the kit parts for the engine we were still able to run at the same pace as the other top teams. We've identified the direction we need to go in terms of development and I'm confident we'll see further improvements at the next test, when the bike will be in full race trim. The team are very professional and it's been good working with them. Overall it's been a very positive first test and I'm looking forward to riding the bike again at Le Mans at the end of March."

Damian Cudlin
"I am so pleased to be involved with what is a very exciting project. Michael Bartholemy has a lot of experience at all levels of the sport, and it's good to be working with the guys from Dunlop once again. The team are very professional and the bike has a lot of potential. This was my first time on a Honda, but I had a good feeling with the bike straight away. We're still missing some kit parts, which we'll have for the next test, but already the bike is at a very good level. I really believe that, after such a productive first test, we can be serious challengers this season."

Michael Bartholemy: Team Principal
"I'm happy to be back in World Endurance, as this is where it all started for me. Pascal H?risson and his team have done a fantastic job building the bike, which has surpassed all expectations at this first test. We came here really just to shakedown the bike, which isn't even in full race trim yet, but Matthieu and Damian did a great job and were able to run the same pace as the leading teams. I'm confident that, when we have the bike built to the full race specification, we'll see even further improvements from Matthieu, Damian and our third rider, who we'll be announcing shortly. I'm very happy with what we've achieved over the past two days and I'm already looking forward to returning to Le Mans for our second test at the end of March."

BMP-ELF-99 CONTINUE IMPROVEMENTS AHEAD OF LE MANS RACE
The BMP-ELF-99 Racing Team fielded a full complement of four riders at this week's two day test at Le Mans where, once again, the new privateer squad proved competitive against their factory-backed Endurance World Championship rivals.

Matthieu Lagrive and Damian Cudlin, who gave the BMP-ELF-99 Honda CBR1000 it's first outing two weeks ago, were joined at this week's test by third rider, Werner Daemen, and the team's nominated reserve rider for the 24-Hour Moto at Le Mans, Marc Fissette.

The focus of the two-day test for all four riders was on refining the set-up of the BMP-ELF-99 Honda CBR1000 in race trim, complete with a full fuel load of 24 litres in the specially modified endurance tank.

As a new team in the Endurance World Championship, the BMP-ELF-99 equipe needed maximum track time to perfect the set-up of their CBR1000. Unfortunately the test was hampered by typical Le Mans weather, which saw bright sunshine followed by persistent rain showers on both of the two test days, reducing the amount of dry track time available to the team.

"The weather certainly wasn't kind to us," explained Team Principal, Michael Bartholemy. "I know it's the same for everyone, but when you're a new team with a brand new bike, dry testing time is more critical than it is for some of the teams who've been running the same bike for the last few years. Put simply, we need as much dry track time as we can get if we're to make up ground on our factory-backed rivals."

Despite the frequent rain related interruptions, the team managed to evaluate a number of workable set-up options on the bike, as well as identifying a clear direction for development ahead of the team's next test at Le Mans, which will take place the week before the 24-hour race.

"As a privateer team we have to work everything out for ourselves, without any assistance from Honda. This extends the development process considerably, but I'm happy with what we've achieved during these two days at Le Mans. Pascal H?risson and his team have put together a fantastic package, but we needed some help to speed up the development and set-up process and to bring us to the same level as the factory-backed teams."

This help came in the form of experienced MotoGP engineers, Pete Benson and Andrea Oleari. Benson was Nicky Hayden's HRC Crew Chief during the American's World Championship winning season, while Oleari was formerly the data engineer with the multiple World Championship winning Aspar Martinez team. Both engineers now work for the Marc VDS Racing Team in the new Moto2 Grand Prix series.

"Andrea installed on our bike the same 2D data acquisition system used extensively in MotoGP, which allowed us to assess very quickly the effect that set-up changes had on the bike. Pete is one of the most experienced engineers in the MotoGP paddock and, through analysing the captured data and comparing that with the feedback from all four riders, he was able to quickly identify where we could make the biggest improvements in terms of set-up. We will make the necessary changes to the bike ahead of the third and final Le Mans test, where I'm confident we will see further improvements in our lap time with all four riders," concluded Bartholemy.

Le Mans 24 Hour: Preview

Entry List - Ones to Watch...

We're just over two weeks away from the Le Mans 24 Hour race; the opening round of the 2010 FIM World Endurance Championship and the biggest date in the endurance racing calendar. Bring it on.

Entry List

After last year's disappointing field, this year's entry list was oversubscribed, with 80 teams putting in an application to enter. 16 of these didn't even make it past the first hurdle of being granted an entry, with the race organisers blaming the unusually high number of permanent teams who have signed up to compete in the full championship. One of the casualties of this pre-selection was the Moto Journal RC30 which proved popular with the crowd – if not with the other competitors – last year.

So 64 teams will line up for the qualifying sessions that begin on Thursday 15th April, with only 56 teams being allowed to start the race.

Ones to Watch

The entry list is packed out with Superstock teams (41 teams out of 64), but the focus on the track will be the Formula EWC entrants. Here's our pick of the crop:

YART- Yamaha Austria Racing Team:
Jerman, Martin, Giabanni. 2009 World Endurance Champions, last years Le Mans winners and virtually unbeaten all season. They've found the formula for success and are now a force to be reckoned with.

SERT – Suzuki Endurance Racing Team:
Philippe, Dietrich, F Foray. Seemingly unbeatable until last year, don't expect them to relinquish their endurance crown without a fight.

Folch Yamaha
: Valcaneras, Rita, Font. Experience but small Spanish team who have improved year on year.

Bolliger Kawasaki: Saiger, Muff, Stamm. Swiss stalwarts who never give up. Will 2010 be their year?

Maco Moto Yamaha
: Pridmore, Ribalta, Carasco. Slovakian team who have grown into a truly professional outfit.

BMW Michelin: Gimbert, Nigon, tbc. We've seen how the bike goes in SBK, but will that translate to endurance success?

RMT21 Honda: Weynand, Rot,h, tbc. Probably the most successful Honda team in the championship in the last five years. Not to be underestimated.

GMT94 Yamaha: Checa, K Foray, Lavilla. Back for the full season after failing to make a big impression in WSS or SBK, this is their home turf.

BMP Elf 99 Honda: Lagrive, Muggeridge, Cudlin. Each of this new Honda team's riders has something to prove; Lagrive and Cudlin also have the endurance experience; expect fireworks.

GSR Kawasaki
: Da Costa, Four, Leblanc. Formerly Kawasaki France, they have a reputation for burning brightly but not for staying lit.

National Motos Honda: Scarnato, Barrier, Jonchiere. They pay for the Le Mans posters to be printed, but they can last the distance in the race?

Alf's Kawasaki
: Godfrey, Barton, Montana. Experienced British team taking over from Phase One as the Brit fan's choice. Phase One will be concentrating on the TT, NW200 and Classic Endurance races this year. Go Alf's!
BMW S1000RR - How will it go in Endurance?

Superstock

Amongst the grid-filling Superstock teams are a handful that are worth watching:

X One Yamaha: Flamboyant Italian squad with the best hospitality in the paddock, moving down from Formula EWC for 2010. .

QERT Suzuki: Last years SST winners, the Qatari squad have signed Alex Cudlin for 2010.

No Limits: Another Italian entry, sixth in the Formula EWC championship last year and not to be underestimated.

Moto45 Suzuki: Second in the championship last year.

Junior Team LMS: SERT's training squad, very professional and racing on home turf at Le Mans.

Hottrax Yamaha: The organisers of the British endurance championship taking on the rest of the world.

Open

The Open class has attracted four entries this year: The funny-front-end Metiss, a Ducati, a Triumph and a KTM.

It's Electrifying!

This year's Le Mans 24 Hour also hosts the inaugural round of the FIM's E-Power world championship for electric motorcycles. The series is a last-minute break-away from the TTXGP original, and we've had no news on entries so far and little information about rules or the the format of the race.

Make a Date

Qualifying kicks off on Thursday 15th April and the 24 Hour race starts at 15:00 CET on Saturday 17th April. Pre-Race practice sessions are being held on the 30th and 31st March
