OK Kids - here we go again, just picked up a used swingarm for the express purpose of either chroming or polishing. As ytou all know, there are pros and cons to each. Help me decide - I will be doing the same process the the footpeg hangers and footguards. So lets hear it guys - what would you do if it were your stuff. Just so you know, I can get it "show plated" for about $250 plus shipping from a very reputable shop.

Be VERY carful Charlie.. there are an awful lot of grades of chrome, and generally show plating is just that, meant for show..
It is very good quality but also very thin ( about half the thickness of the normal coating )
Also, you should consider that chrome on ally i not a natural bond so to speak, and is a bit prone to flake off..
Me, I reckon I would go for the polish !

Polish then lacquer, personally i just dont think chrome on ali would last very long and would then look very shabby indeed

Yep cbrcasteroil

I agree polish (cos it comes up like crome) but then definately laquer as a m8 wishes he had cos its a lot of work to keep clean.

GLOSS BLACK.

yeah, and powder coated at that

their intertestical dimensions are very different so getting the two to stay together is going to be poor.

Chrome is shit and is old hat(Unless ya like Harleys or 60's style choppers.

Polish mate,polish.

But don't laquer. Yeah,sure...It easy to say that dirt just washes off laquer with the point and squirt of a hose but when the stone chips come-a-calling,damp and road grime (and salt if ya ride in all weathers) will find the exposed alley and seep under the chipped erea of laquer, thus eventualy lifting patches off. This'll look crap and you'll have to strip the lot off and re-do.
If you have anything polished-then be prepared for many hours clutching a cloth and buffing away at ya beast (Not that one ya fulthy monkeys!).

If ya only ride on sunny days and never in the wet-Then either of ya choices will do-But chrome is still crap and it'll soon wear off ya heel plates from the movement of ya boots.

Yes but you'll realise why you pay the price ya do if ya send it out.
It ain't techical...Just fookin' boring.
Mind you-If ya ain't done it before-you'll enjoy the final result. But after the 5/6/7/8 re-polish,you'll get bored and farm it out.

I thought ya meant the swing arm.
Footrests will do ya brain no harm but you might need a small mop to get into the corners.
If ya got a dremel , then ya laughing.

Swing arm would be nice to do, but beyong my limited skills on bikes to remove the thing.

Have got a Dremmel so will have a go at the hangers and heel pads.

Cheers for the info.

thanks Clive - thing is, I like the saddle's streamline, I think it goes well with the lines of the bike - but I've toyed with the idea - comfort is not an issue for me, I actually find it very comfortable because my Furygan leather trousers have a very think kevlar padding on the bottom (on top of the natural padding I carry around!), but when pillion on she doesn't stop sliding on me pushing me in front and that :bang: no end...

If the sliding around is pissing you off-get her to use one hand on the grap rail and to reach round your waist with the other arm and place her hand on the sloping part of the tank just infront of your crotch. When you exelerate, she can counter act by using the grap rail and if you slow she can push her body back by bracing acainst the tank.
And if she's in the right frame of mind, the hand on the tank can always be moved onto You know where!

Andy, you dirty man, what where you doing looking at where the chick had her hand? Mac, I like it and that's what matters right? On a black frame the back plugs look pukka but on a gunmetal frame I prefer those, so... I fitted them - and bertie, so far so good, not moved a mm! :yo:
