I agree with the fines but it just goes to show the stupidity of the regulations. They can sit side-by-side in their police vehicles but can't sit together in a cafe. My job requires that I occupy a vehicle with a colleague in order to collect and deliver cars but I can't socialise with him unless we are out for a walk in the open air.

Got no time for “Do as I say, not as I do”. If they want respect and consent from the public they have to earn it by exemplary behaviour, acting as role models and not as entitled authoritarians would go a long way in retrieving public trust and compliance.
Mind you with the lack of black and white guidance these situations will always be open to interpretation and therein lies the problem for all of us.
Hastily drawn up law is generally bad law.

There is a difference - sitting side by side in a police vehicle is often necessary, sitting side by side in a cafe isn't.

It's just been announced at the company I work for that car sharing is now banned.
Public transport is fine though....

Seems a bit pointless when the production teams work in cells of 10 or 12 and stand less than 1m from each other.

Because they 99% do its as simple as that ! not sure if its trained into them or just the natural arrogance that comes with the job !

No doubt there are many more cases & its only these that have been highlighted
I really hope they got a lecture similar to the ones the rest of us get for doing 1mph over the speed limit along with their way too small fines

Respect should be earned not expected when handed a radio & a stab vest etc, this article highlights just why many police across the nation don't get the respect they think they deserve
