Well that was interesting, earlier on I took some recycling out to the bin only to be accosted by an off duty copper, he showed his warrant card etc and i took the details on the back of my hand as I had a pen behind my ear at the time

The reason for this?
Said numpty has spotted the multitool on my belt and tried to give me a warning about carrying an "offensive weapon" i soon put a stop to that by quoting the law at him and telling him to do one as its a perfectly legal carry
He then tried to say it must be a locking blade so illegal without excuse and asked me to hand it over which i refused explaining that it does not lock and i wasn't getting a blade out in the street for him or anyone, again quoting knife law as well as including stop and search laws to the best of my ability

Now this complete tosser was in a mess and googling the law on his phone while getting more and more unhappy as time went on, just to take the piss i invited him in for a coffee and told him i would be happy to show him many more legal blades, he declined and did one but i expect a knock at the door sometime soon, quite looking forward to that if i am honest :meparto::meparto::meparto:

Where is the bin?
About ten foot from my front door, not that it makes any difference he was in the wrong and still would be if the bin was at your house and I wanted to deposit my recycling there

Next time bring your recycling on the end of a bayonet and tell him it's a new recycling tool.

To assume it's your bin is a mystery, unless it's numbered?
To assume you live there is another.
You could have been a contractor.
Is he gonna stop every workman on
the street, in a pair of scruffs?

Report him. If he does not know the laws that he is supposed to be upholding he needs further education. He is likely to hassle someone else less confident than your good self unless shown the right way.
+1 on that. Borderline feckin' harrassment. I wear a multitool in a pouch on my belt most days and I'd be pretty fecked off if that happened to me.

It does make a difference. If it’s private property ie on your drive it’s none of their business anyway.

It’s a shame when so called professionals don’t know what they’re on about, back in the early eighties I had a local firearms officer call as part of the security check before a renewal of my fac, he was seemingly delighted that he had found ammo in . 38 special as that was not stated on my ticket and was about to run me down to the station, when I explained to him that as my ticket stated the possession of .357 ammo that covered both the use of .38 special cases as well as .357 magnum cases in my S&W model 28 as the bullets were the same size, he argued the that they were two totally different Calibres and one wouldn’t fit the other, (this is only correct in the fact .357 magnum will not chamber in a .38 firearm) it wasn’t untill I took him out to my reloading room and measured the cases explaining that the only difference was .100 thou in the length of the case and explained the statement he had made earlier was in error, He wasn’t very happy and it wasn’t until I said I could ring the duty UKPSA legal eagle to explain why he would end up with egg on his face he reluctantly relented.
However it’s good to see things have progressed as now if you apply for said calibre it comes as a category titled .357/.38, takes a while but finally filtered through.

No it does NOT make a difference mate, the blade is totally within the law to carry on my property or not there are only two ways I should get hassle for it
1; waving it around in the street in an aggressive manner, but the same could be said for a biro
2; i was somewhere where the management or owner had a policy against carrying a legal tool and even then all they could do is ask me to surrender it or leave

Even if the blade is an inch long and it locks its an offence without "reasonable excuse" hence my multitool has now been modded to non locking ;)

Tempted mate but I know from previous experience it would go nowhere :(

If i had a choice? I know, I'm a weirdo!
I would be more intimidated by a Stanley blade than a knife.
Get slashed with a Stanley and it's a nightmare to stitch up.

Exactly Tony, below 3 inches in length and non locking does not come under the “ reasonable excuse“ category hence it’s legal as opposed to that which you have pointed out.

The laws changes again in march and plod does not seem to know what they are, do a quick search and you will find loads of posts about it and even some plod and legal professionals misquoting the law

Exactly that mate, no reason to carry needed and no legal reason to even answer a coppers questions on the matter although passing the "attitude test" by being polite and explaining clearly what the law states saves a bit of hassle

As an aside when you look at the law its 3" cutting edge measured around any curve rather than blade length and a few have been caught out by that already, some lads with borderline legal EDC penknives are adding a choil to the blade to reduce the cutting edge length, personally I wouldn't do that, much better to be carrying something well under the legal length imo
