My son always advises to leave side stand down if on centre stand.

He had parked his bike. His friend came up behind (fully loaded on tour).
Didn't get bike up on first attempt.
The bike rolled forward hit son's bike rolling it off the stand (brand new GTR).
Luckily it fell over on stand side so no damage.

Similar... being cak-handed I wheel the bike while standing on the off side.
I always wheel it with the side stand down

I never leave the side stand down if on the main stand its far too easy to bark your shin on it if you forget & your sons mate needs to learn what the lever on the right bar is for ;)

Similar to John I used to always stand to the side to move a bike around & take the pee out of the blokes that sit on & paddle cos they are scared of dropping it, sometimes the stand would be up & sometimes the stand down depending on the situation but now as I've got older & my health/strength has deteriorated I find myself paddling bikes around more & more :(

On a similar note, last time I was out for a ride I ignored a perfect place to park next to other bikes & pulled up 20yds away to the disgust of mates I was with, then I pointed out that a couple of knobheads on bikes had parked on the side stand facing downhill & my mates understood ............ sure enough half an hour later there was a commotion & two bikes were over damaging a third proving the point that some people shouldn't be allowed anywhere near machinery of any sort

side stand always down first and leave it there. Bike is more secure on prop stand so rarely use mainstands on bikes that have them anyway

Main stand for me. Don’t like leaving a hot bike with its stator baking in static red hot oil.

Me too, John. If necessary I have to bump start it from that side as well. I thought I must be some sort of weirdo ! We should start some sort of splinter group ! P.S. I am right handed.

I am naturally left handed but when I was a childit was at a time when being left handed was considered not quite nice ( tis true ), so the school I went to insisted I write with my right hand... this resulted in two things.
My writing has always been terrible and I have the ability to use most tools ( hammer, saw, spanners etc ) with both hands...
But I am definitely left legged.
Bikes with a kick start have always been a challenge .. and the cause of much piss taking over the years !

Armstrong MT500 have a cack handed kickstart which is a real pain (literally) for those of us wired up the right way ;) :D

After all these years that would be a total arse for me !.
I stand to the right of the bike, and use my left leg to kick it over.. I think I would actually struggle to kick it over while on the bike :)
