Sorry I have honestly no idea, some of our cases are held via video link, reading between the lines here it was held in the health care centre so it may have been deemed that he was too fragile mentally to attend.

Unless things have changed.........
A prisoner has to be declared "fit to travel" by a healthcare professional - usually a nurse. If they won't clear him he won't move, or he can be moved with a healthcare professional on the escort.

Having worked in the video link I was told by the courts that court appearances can be heard over video link with the exception of the original remand and the actual trial.

I have seen civil cases heard in prison but never criminal ones. Usually if a prisoner refuses to attend then the hearing goes ahead without him/her.
