Had a thought this morning
We keep seeing reports of case numbers.. What would be far more useful and indeed relevant would be reporting on how the victims are fairing
But of course, we will not be allowed such info... if its bad people might panic, if the news is good folk might become lax.. and of course which ever way it is putting the info in the public domain takes away some of the 'power' of those in charge

Not quite sure what numbers you want John? Daily case numbers are consistently around 40/50k ish, the number of people in hospital has been well below 10k for months (relatively low) and deaths are also relatively low. Deaths as a proportion of reported cases since the start of the pandemic is around 1.4% and that percentage is consistently falling since the jab become available. All indicates that the vast majority are ‘only mildly ill’, and it also has to be borne in mind that it is likely that there are thousands if not millions more cases that aren’t reported as individuals do not display symptoms and do not do lateral flow tests so they are unaware (hence the importance of continuing to do lateral flow tests).

The figures that I would like to see is the proportion of people who are sadly hospitalised that have been double jabbed against not jabbed. I am reasonably confident that I know the answer and can’t for the life of me think why the government aren’t using this to encourage those who remain undecided.

It was mentioned in the last briefing that ‘almost all’ pregnant women that are sadly hospitalised with covid have not been vaccinated, pretty big clue what the bigger picture may be there?

And before anyone reads Into this post something that isn’t there (perish the thought) there is no mention of whether I think people should be jabbed or not.

I think John is specifically talking about the Omicron variant.

I, too, would like to know how many of those who have caught the Omnicron version are :

1) serioulsy ill - i.e. hospitalised
2) suffering from something akin to a real flu-like illness
3) feeling like they have something similar to a cold
4) feeling a wee bit under the weather but otherwise fine....etc.
5) coughing, etc but otherwise not showing any ill symptoms

After some considerable effort I found the following

the professor in South Africa said the effects so far appear to be quite mild. We will know more in the next few days

Some more info....
The latest variant has links with the common cold
The main indicators were fatigue, body aches and headaches, she said. Dr Coetzee also said that patients, thus far, did not report losing their taste or smell as with the Delta variant, and there hadn’t been a drop in oxygen levels as seen in previous variants.

She also said she had seen more cases among younger people, particularly 40 and younger, but that they’d recovered without any severe or lasting symptoms.

Other South African doctors have also shared Dr Coetzee’s assessment, saying symptoms are mild.

To play the devil's advocate, Dr's in South Africa are going to say that the symptoms are mild as it is coming up to South Africa's peak tourism season and hence don't want to put people off coming to the country :couch:

But equally they are aware the world is watching and they know full well that false information would both be deadly to the body and any future career !

It was reported on our local radio last week that Scientists in SA have stated that anybody who is double vaccinated & had the booster if they catch Omicron will become immune to covid for life, htf they have worked this out is way beyond me

Seems that the medical professionals are
as twitchy as fook diagnosing anyone who has a slight sniffle and blaming it
on all related covid bumf.
They won't be happy unless they're prodding you with a 10ft pointy stick and
incarcerate you in a clean environment.
You will make a miraculous recovery and
your diagnosis will be a common cold.
False alarm, but it justified their medical
expertise and saved millions in the process....
