My father was a senior bank official and I was selected to assist in the decimalisation of the currency over 50 years ago. As a youngster my views, along with others, was used to help determine how cheques should be made out among other things. For example how to write down the numerals and it was shown how it wasn’t necessary to write the “p” at the end of a value eg £10.23 and not £10.23p. It may sound trivial but our comments were valued.
