Oil Prices Reach Record High

Oil prices have hit a record high with crude oil futures topping 42 dollars a barrel.Prices have gone up 25% this year - they are now at levels not seen since the early 1980s.It is feared the rising cost will lead to higher prices at petrol pumps.

experts say drivers could soon be paying as much as ?4 per gallon, around 92p a litre.

The rise follows unrest in the Middle East, including the killing of 22 people at a Saudi oil installation at the weekend.

Company offices and a housing complex were targeted in the eastern city of Al-Khobar.

Chancellor Gordon Brown is now under increasing pressure to put off September's already-planned hike in UK fuel duty.

OH thats feckin nice aint it???? :bang: :bang: :bang:

oil prices may well be at there highest since time began, but the majority of the price "at the pump" is taxes, and we know who`s in charge of that don't we,?? so who's voting for this lot again??? :dunno:

You're right Ian - nonetheless, last year before the war the barril was at $23, now it's around $40, so here is a riddle: apart from the governement's taxes, who's making $17 a barril more than last year?

Nothing to chose between any of 'em IMHO. No matter who you vote for, you'll get screwed one way or another.

What we need is a General Election where nobody goes to the polling station to vote. Total apathy may make the polititians realise we have no faith in any of 'em.

Hang on......there's always 'unrest' in the Middle East. Why should this latest bit cause the price of oil to rise ?? Are they suddenly paying the oil workers 'danger money' to stay and produce the oil ??? Or are they hiking the price to pay for increased security to guard the oil barons ????

unfortunately supa I think your right, there all a bunch of lier's and gold bricker`s :bandit:

as for the total apathy idea, :dunno: for people like you and me it would work a treat, but were talking "politician's" here, they just spin it to suite themselves and the crooked agendas they are working toward,

and as I don't want Roxxo getting on my back Ill just have to admit I don't know the answer to the problem, cause and effect etc :dunno:

It's a problem............

............cos the 'fundi nutters' don't mind dying and have never targeted oil production before.

Fair play though, it's a cracking target cos you hit major pipelines anywhere you like and cause real probs and you don't necessarily get to die either.

The tax complaint is a double edged sword: if they don't collect from oil which virtually everybody uses then they have to collect from something else which probably less of us use and will end up paying even more out for.........see what I mean ? Just wish they'ed sort the fekking waste out first...........

What pisses me off is these buggers in government always seem to miss the target: eg. raise interest rates to calm the housing market - only the poor bastids who have already bought and managed to get a mortgage suffer: not the property bastids who make money from each sale. Tax Estate agents, mortgage lenders and solicitors on the proceeds of house sales and watch prices stagnate faster than DB on a trip to Thetford Clubhouse @ 5 in the morning with the tandoori twostep.................
