OBAN McBASH - More Details

Here is the Garmin GPX File for the Sunday Ride out, aint used Garmin Basecamp for a few years so not sure if it'll work so if anyone downloads it and it work, let me know !

Its also on the Facebook page in case it doesn't download from here proper like !

http://www.fyviedesign.co.uk/personal/McBash%202016-1.GPX

Total milage is about 147 miles but that will take all day, believe me !

The aim is to take it easy(ish) and take in the scenery, also be stopping at The Green Welly, for those who haven't been or heard of it (eh!), its a well know Bike stop and as its Sunday will probably be mobbed with other bikes !

And now for Saturday (yeah I know its arse about face!)

Idea is to have a quiet Saturday morning (most of you will have ridden a long way to get there) so a walk into Oban (10 mins) for a coffee or retail therapy and then after food we will do a shorter ride to Glencoe then onto Tyndrum and back to Oban.

Total miles about 100 but we have all afternoon and it will take as long as it takes.

Because of the scenery there can be as many photo stops as you like, not the roads for blasting, really !!

This is a copy of a post on the McBASH Facebook page....

Right for those who are coming to the McBASH, I'd like opinions regarding the lengths of planned hideouts for the Saturday and Sunday.
You can see the routes above, but to summarise.

Saturday, no morning rides, easy time to walk into Oban for a Coffee or just to look around and then we would plane to have lunch before we leave the Lancaster at about 1.00pm

Then the planned circular route is 100 miles, taking as long as we need to get back to the Lancaster for tea.

To save time and to help the hotel, we can all place our orders for the evening meals with the hotel on the Friday night so that can be ready when we get back Saturday afternoon/evening.

Sunday is the same idea but a bit longer, this time the circular route is 145 miles with stops for coffee, lunch and also any stops along the way you fancy.
We aim to leave the Lancaster 10.00am and again, take as long as we need to get back to Oban.

Its easy on maps and Garmin to look at the routes and think 100 or 145 miles is ok, but if anyone thinks either of them are too long then just put a comment on here.

I am heading over there next weekend to do both routes, mainly to see actually how long they do take and if I find its too long then, I will adjust them to suit and let y'all know.

In the meantime though if anyone has any additional thoughts on th length of the runs, just say because I know what can happen if it gets too long especially as most of you will also be travelling a fair distance to get there.
I also know a lot of you are hardened bikes so distances are no object !!
Thoughts ?
:)

Come on you Hatters
I know I'm not coming, but this is an area I've visited quite a lot over the last few years. And we're here in Lochgilphead now.
Jules and I did the Sunday route yesterday, taking in the Kinlochleven loop too, although we cut from Inverary through to Tyndrum. I'd have thought you'd do that Sat afternoon quite easily, we left here about 11 and was back by 4 having stopped at the Green Wellie and a Coffee shop in Oban, as well as a couple of photo stops, oh and a Tesco visit in Oban.
I'd have thought you'd take everyone to Skye and up over the Quraig on Sunday, or head for Appecross and Ullapool.
Anyway, hope you all have a great time.

I am a doubtful to make the whole weekend this year:bang: Although I know the area well, in fact had a ride out to Oban yesterday, what I will say is the Police are very active in this area of the West of Scotland. Yesterday I saw 1 mobile camera van. Two marked a cars a BMW and an Audi and an unmarked BMW, that's on a wet Tuesday:eek:
At weekends I have seen up to three mobile scammers and marked and unmarked bikes and cars.

Oban was pretty busy yesterday all the chippies were mobbed gr0n:lot of tourists -Oban really is the Las Vegas of the West Coast8rfl@

Be good to see you even if only for a flying visit mate, I appreciate you probably know these roads more than most so hope everyone else enjoys the weekend as well.

Thanks for the tip off about the bobbies @tu*

May also be helpful knowing about the bobbies for this weekend coz we're going over for a reeky :-0)

Another update !
It looks like we have 17 staying in the Lancaster, another 2 next door and Clive and Gina in their MH so a total of 21 with Scott and Roy getting there a night early.
When y'all arrive at the Hotel there is an area in the rear car park where you can park the bike (or car!), if you don't have a puck, I will leave some at Reception because there is a bit of gravel to park on there but should be ok.

I think I also mentioned before that they will take your evening meal orders the night before to give them chance to get them ready. However as most of you arrive Friday I have attached a Menu so if you can let me know what you would like (if anything) on the Friday evening I'll let them know. Although its only a bar meal, they have reserved the main dining room for us all to eat in which is just for us !

I've looked at both runs and been in touch with the places along the way who are all ready for us !

Because I didn't get the chance for a proper look at the runs for either day, once we go out it will just be a suck it and see job where if you want to stop for photos, feel free, but we can discuss all that malarky on the Friday night.
If anyone wants to email me about any of this its russ@russquinlan.co.uk and if you can do that for the Friday night meal that would be great.

Hi Russ,
ATM Moira and I will be looking to stay local with relatives. Cant commit to Friday evening meal yet as we'd arrive too late (if that changes I'll let you know). Should be with you for the Saturday and Sunday rides and anything in between.

Have ridden both loops from Oban to the north and south, the ride south is fantastic and challenging via Kilmartin/Inverary.

Cheers
Derek

The Maatchi Indian Nosh House on George Street gets a good write up if anyone fancies a 'ruby'.

good looking AND modest
Just discovered the fantastic manager we had has "as usual" fucked up the holidays of myself and 4 others, so will be bloody knackered when I arrive Friday and will have to work on the Monday as well!!

Trouble is the pinis has now retired, so we've no comeback at the twat, and the "new" manager is refusing to go through the holiday book to see what other fuck ups the last one has made!! :dunno:

:)-( Looks like I'll be open for more "trailer" taunts as Yvo can drive, whilst I have a kip, and swap over when awake!!:dunno:

We've been really busy for a few weeks so now trying to catch up. Rather than muliple facebook bits can we say here - yes to the tunnel trip, 2 x cullen skink; 1 x fish and chips and 1 x stovies for Friday night. We're planning to leave Hampshire Wednesday morning to be in Oban Friday afternoon. Haven't had time to route plan yet. We'll be back markers on the ride outs - Devora likes to take it easy after "modifying" her gixxer a few times!!!

No problem.

I have a plan for the ride outs which I hope will hopefully satisfy the faster riders and those wanting to take their time which I will post tonight, should keep everyone happy, I hope !

Also for some reason, the maps I posted earlier and now missing so Ill sort that tonight as well.

I'll update this and the FB page tonight

Ok here are my thoughts to make sure you lot have plenty of time to stop off along the routs, take photos or whatever.

Usually we will all ride in one big group but because some would like to take their time and see the scenery, how about this ?

Saturday, as mentioned before, easy morning to do what you want. We are due to be at the Hollow Mountain Visitor Centre at about 1.40pm ready for our planned tour on their bus at 2.00pm. It doesn't take long (30 mins) so once we get out we are aiming to head East towards Tyndrum (see Map above) but then head North to Glencoe (not stopping at Tyndrum unless you need fuel).
I thought we can leave Cruachan as you want to (group or individual) and make our way to the Cafe at Glencoe Village called CRAFTS AND THINGS where there is a Craft Shop as well as refreshments, they are expecting us but not at any particular time. It takes about 1hr 10 mins (so they say) to get there so we could just say we all meet up there after 4.00pm. Again we can leave when you're ready to head back to Oban for the evening meal (don't forget to pick what you want on the Menu for Friday Night!)

Sunday, a longer ride but aiming to get to the GREEN WELLY AT TYNDRUM for fuel and or coffee. apparently takes about an hour to get there (all depending on traffic!) so aiming to get there about 10.30. Again either leave in a group about 9.30 or make your own way to meet up there.
We then have din dins booked at THE INVERARY INN (In the Campbell Room) for a bar lunch at approx 12.30 so plenty of time to head South from Tyndrum. Its only 45 miles or so, but the road also runs part way down Loch Lomand so may be busy but again you can make your own way from Tyndrum as long as we're all at Inverary for about 12.30ish.
We will leave there and then head back to Oban which is about 65 miles on more scenic roads so the plan is to then meet up at the Esso Garage in Paterson Street in Lochgilphead (its on the main A83 road overlooking the Loch) for anyone needing to fill up and then leave as a Group because I have a little detour planned which I hope to have time to do but we will need to stick together at that point to follow me along a road I hope is as good as it looks and its not more than 10 miles from there !
Once there more photos, etc and there is a bog I think and then you can all head back when you feel like to to meet back at Oban, again for evening meal.

I hope that suits everyone, its your weekend so feel free to do as you please, the above is aimed to accommodate everyone and to give you time to explore the area. There may be things you want to see yourself so I hope that will allow a bit of flexibility and not a rigid 'follow the leader' weekend !

Anyway, not long now. just a reminder for anyone who hasn't sent me a PM about what food you'd like for Friday evening can you please let me have your choice by the middle of next week so I can let the hotel know.

Any comments, just shout up !!

Many thanks for all that organising Russ. Are the rideouts taking the same routes that you put up before or are they different now? I'll put them into Garmin cos we're very good at getting lost!!!
