NOT working

hello people my speedo has packed in on ma bird any ideas whats wrong with it
?
as it is a 1996 model is it a cable or electronic?

Similar thing happened to me last year to my speedo,rev counter,petrol gauge and temparature gauge..in fact,the feckin lot.was on my way to blumeeni's when it happened..lucky for me pete's a mechanic so he checked the fuses etc etc,and found the fault to be a bad connection between a wire and the connector block at the back of the clocks.basically,he bi-passed it and all was good again :yo: so it may be a similar problem :dunno: by the way,mine's a 1999 FI....if that makes a difference.

The speedo is electorinc working from a pick up atop the gearbox dave.

Although not common there have been reports of the printed circuit on the back of the dash going manky, causing all manner of different issues.

I would be inlined to remove the screen ( which is nice and easy ) and first off check the red and the black multi pin plug and sockets ( they are in a plastic wrap afair )..
If they look good then start looking closely at the rear of the dash for any signs of corrosion..
You could also make sure the pick up is plugged in to the loom properly thinking about it
