Not even institutional madness

She's appealing her conviction but hasn't yet stated on what grounds. Until such time as her appeal is concluded, she can remain an MP, and keep receiving her MP salary. Local word here in her constituency (based on hearsay) is that a) she's going to string out the appeal as long as she can, and b) the appeal may well be on the grounds of race.

Luckily, I only work in her constituency, not live in it.

She should indeed have resigned but it's likely that decision will be made for her by way of a recall petition.

I wonder if she's been struck off as a solicitor yet?

What, so she's going to claim that speed limits only apply to people of certain ethnic origins? Well, with her being a (former) Liebour MP AND a solicitor, that wouldn't surprise me.

This was discussed in the local paper, apparently they can't go for a recall petition while she is appealing her conviction.

And if she's going to drag it on for as long as possible, then I guess she'll be in place for quite a long time.

More a case of if if it was someone not of a certain ethnic origin, they would have been found not guilty as she maintains she wasn't driving the car or using her mobile phone in her car moments before the speed camera was triggered with only one person in the car, having a short time before left one of her constituents properties just around the corner.

It probably won't help her case that her brother is currently serving 10 months for helping her (allegedly).

I might be wrong but surely she would not have served an immediate custodial sentence if it was considered that there may be grounds for appeal??

just plain madness.

Still able to serve as an MP. Really?

That aside, anyone with any moral compass would have resigned.

The world really has gone mad.

I remember a few years back, one of the red top rags running a two page spread listing a couple of hundred convicted felons and their crimes, who were working in a certain national organisation.
The whole range of criminal enterprise was listed - from fraud to manslaughter. They then invited their readers to identify the aforementioned organisation.

Turned out to be The House of Commons.

Or not. If I'm reading it right she got 3 months, of which she served less than four weeks, for pleading not guilty and her brother got 10 months for holding his hands up?

Well, well, well:

Common sense has prevailed this time. For now, at least.........................
As I said before, if there was a realistic chance of an appeal being successful I don't think she would have served time.

Shame they remembered to let her out.

There are some cases where the situation of the guilty party should lead to increased sentencing, MPs being one of them.

After all, if you can't trust an MP who can you trust??
