Got to that time of year when it's done nothing but rain for weeks and only get to fantasise about sunny days out on the bird.

So started to plan our next trip away in August. Not decided yet but looking at northern Spain. Hoping to use my saved up avios to pay for most of the ferry crossing as it's very expensive from plymouth to Santander. Trying to talk the wife into camping instead of hotels. Nearly talked her into it!

Anyone toured northern spain?

With the camping, can anyone recommend a comfortable ground mat to sleep on? Airbeds always seem to go flat over night?

Last question for now. Is camping in Spain like camping in France where most towns have a cheap camp site?

We toured Spain in May. All I would say is that if you're looking for sun then north Spain could be a bit hit and miss. It's not green for nothing. It chucked it down when we were there but it was lovely down south where we spent most of our time.

My wife doesn't like camping either (neither do I to be honest) but we found the hotels to be fairly reasonably priced.

Also, we took the new LD Lines ferry from Poole to Gijon which is very convenient for us and about half the price Brittany ferries quoted. We booked early mind you. Ferry was fine. Paid about the same to go to Spain as Brittany is for Poole - Cherbourg.

We really enjoyed Spain.
