Looks grim Ben~~

Feel sorry for all those involved and anyone who is injured through riding their P&J.

However................just an observation..............

Wearing just T shirt and jeans????????????????

If ever there was an advert for decent bike leathers, this thread does the job

No matter how hot the weather..............never ever ever ride without proper gear.

looks very Grim

Especially for the guy under the truck,, has for wearing the right gear,, never ever think about not wearing decent leathers,,, its something you take for granted until you need them.

I have not got a cut on me,,,,, bruised yes but no abrasions,, if it wasn't for my sidi race boots my whole ankle bone would be knackered on left side my left leg took full weight of bike has I slid into the car side on,, only a fracture on phibea (sp) jut below knee, not main bone in leg,, bad bruises to behind knee & tendons,, but no cuts.

Bruises to upper chest,, padding in leather jacket helped cusion the impact,, got a few scuffs to trousers,, padding saved bruises to my hips etc, three impact marks on my Arai QF,, front left visor took a big scrape,, paint missing on back & both sides of helmet where I rolled/tumbled to a halt,, I shall by another Arai,, gloves cost 64 quid,, not a mark on my hands,, fractured wrist due to impact,, again no cuts,, looking at the x rays the fractures are neat & will heal fine.

Ride without proper kit,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, never it just ain't worth it. and for all those peeps that think it will never happen to them,,,, it just might one day,, because when you ride alng a main road doing about 50mph,, & you see a car on the left waiting to pull out,, you ease off a little wondering has he seen me,, you pull over towards the white line to help you become more visible,, again you ask yourself,, has he seen me,,, you look directly at the person in the driving seat,, he appears to be looking straight at you,, you think yes he has seen me,,, at this point you are so close to the junction,, you see his wheels start to move,, you shout in your helmet,, don't you phookin dare,, don't you phookin dare,,, then he pulls out straight in front of you,,,,,, nothing you can do,,, you slam on the brakes hoping to lesson the speed,, because at this point you know you are going to hit him,, in a second its all over,,,, & believe me you really think its your time.

sorry went off on one then didn't i,,,,

feel better though,,,,,, I have no doubt wearing the right kit,, saved me from more serious injury or even death.,, sort of brings it home to you.

I ain't allowed on the back of a bike in anything other than leather

and I used to whinge all the time about heavy, hot, etc etc.

Then we had that low-speed bump on the Trophy 2 years ago. I was thrown sideways clear of the bike, bounced on the tarmac, landed in the next carriageway. Smack, my hand came down on the road.

Few scuff marks down the right hand side of me leathers, and 1 nice bruise on my right wrist bone. Why? - cos I wasn't wearing 'proper' motorcycling gloves, just some ordinary warmly lined leather gloves, which were a bit short but OK. Not! - never again!!

In the Gorge du Verdon last summer, 40-something degrees. Look at the sun, look at the gravel on the road, look at the 'rough' verges. No way were we riding those roads without the full kit. (So we were getting up at daybreak to go riding! It was excellent.) I have been very tempted by those 'Airblast' type jackets, which have all the armour so I think if you land on something smooth-ish like a road, would be ok but what if you land actually IN gravel/rocks? Often found on the sides of hills, you could roll quite easily, couldn't you? The thought of coming off somewhere like that is quite scary - so you just have to wear something sensible don't you?

I personally do feel that virtually how thin the leather is, it is likely to offer my delicate parts better protection than a bit of material. (I believe kangaroo skin is the dog's danglies, so when we go to Oz to see my sis, maybe I'll see what I can see? - anyone know anything about it protection-wise?) And don't start telling me about Kevlar and stuff like that. Brilliant stuff for sails.

I suppose it's down to personal choice - but I'm with Shrops on this one!

If you're in any doubt about whether you should be riding in protective kit then just pause to imagine rubbing a cheese grater all over your naked body before you go for a ride.
Just focuses the mind, simple eh?

Oh by the way, were the crashes filmed on the A6 between Derby and Matlock Bath?

Completeley agree with Shrops, been through something not too disimilar. Broken bones & whiplash type stuff yes but no nasty horrible skin scraps you will carry for the rest of your days.

Now gets off soap box

Sorry Lumpy...............

.............on this rare occasion, you're 100% wrong. Full kit always; no excuses.

Even mountain bikers are getting into full body protection and thats for mostly sub 30mph spills on grass/tracks etc.

Remember: Skin grafts fekking hurt - especially if they get infected

Some of these T-shirted twats on Speedfighters roaring round town @ 25 mph weaving and bobbing want their fekking heads read...............and they don't like it when I tell em either :} esp when it's a lycra clad [helmet and gloves mind, always] cyclist alongside em at the lights lecturing !!!

Last year in France,at 40 ?C, I was riding in my full 'airblast' suit, but it was still too hot. It's a lot cooler than leathers though I don't feel as safe in them, I think they offer about half of the protection as leathers do, but at least it's better than jeans. I do recommend them, they are just wonderfull from around 23?C.
Just saw an accident here in the village, guy on a scooter got hit in the side by a car (sorry, I didn't see ya). Guy made a salto and was bleeding from his head and hands. He had gloves on him, but didn't wear them, he didn't have a full face helmet.(they should be obbligated)I was riding just behind him, could have been me.

Ride safe!
