i like the coolant idea. .. but will try and live with it a bit longer.

Thanks for all the help anyway, its been good experience working on the bike and getting jobs done when the suns out.

one final question will it (is there a cpu thing in it) to cut out if too hot or just explode ??

You are talking about Brunel engineering on a Blackbird so I very much doubt there is any sort of fail safe mechanism. I would guess a hose would pop before the engine gave up......

I'm quiet sure your oil level is ok!!?
I don't know about Honda but on certain makes if the oil level drops the oil cooler starves......rise in temp..... causes you to worry before any real damage is done!
Just saying! Could throw a pork pie on the dipstick!!

    Gents.

I’m just about to collect another Bird at the weekend. A 2000 model with 49k on the clock.

My previous XXY ran quite hot in warm conditions and when I viewed my new purchase last weekend it was 31 degrees.
I took the bike for a quick test (2 miles) and the temp gauge was showing 3/4’s hot whilst riding.

Once stationary after the ride it ventured up to the max mark on the gauge and I shut it down whilst the fan was running.

Concerning at the time but after reading this post, it appears acceptable is that about right guys?

JAW’s just in case can you send me a link or PM a price for a replacement rad. Couldn’t find it on your site. Thanks mate!

The FI isn't great in scorching weather, you just got to get used to it!!

I'd agree a new rad has meant the heating slows down a bit but still gets hot n bothered as you say in heat.

Have come to accept it and turn off on while the heat is on.

One thing that I haven't seen anyone try is using waterless coolant in a Bird. In theory it should help the real issue that the FI has in really hot weather (at least mine did) but whether it makes a difference in the real world hasn't been tested yet as far as I know.

Sorry for tardy reply, been flat on my back with food poisoning and only did bare minimum.

I am only techy bod for Jaws Motorcycles and Blackbird Spares nowadays, having retired 3 years ago :)
But if you give Karen or one of the other guys at the shop a ring they will be able to sort it out for you ...

It may also seem a bigger problem now than it might be as this was a very unusual summer. Quite a few bike forums have had " my bike doesn't normally run this hot"

So... Summer coming to an end in uk.

New radiator is definitely better at dropping heat, even if it gets just as hot when you stop it goes down quicker.

More later in the winter.. Gotta fit that front fender extension...

Soooooooooo.............have you proved you have been trying to solve a problem that never existed?

    Yes problem didn't exist.

Not the droids i was looking for...

Fitted fender extender... Again another doubtful problem...fixed

Brilliant, nothing is a problem if doubted.. A new life outlook learnt today... Lol
