Hi all,

Just a quick update to my Bird purchase. Jaws came down to Ling's in Ipswich this Friday afternoon to look at two Birds that they had there, one Red and one Blue. The blue one had been brought down from the Lowestoft branch via van and WITHOUT the fookin' keys :bang:

So Jaws spent some time looking at both and told me that the Red one had shagged front springs as well as all the other faults... cracked fairing between N/S mirror and screen, damaged N/S engine casing, scuffs to the fairing and front mudguard as well as a shagged rear rubber, etc

The blue one even with 6k more that the red which had done 12k, was in better condition and better looked after. Hardly a mark on it, also it had extras... hugger (worn through in the normal places), front mudgaurd extender, great 020's front & rear, Meta remote alarm/immob, Datatagged, but the chain & sprockets were shagged and the sub frame mod needed to be done :} - see Jaws.

Even so that was the Jaws 'best buy'.

I returned Saturday, the key had been posted but the battery was flat ... we will jump it! No we won't the battery's shagged, we will change it 4 the red birds... juiced up we were off.....

Had a good long run and it was much better than the red, so it was not me not being used to the steering, as the red un's springs were shot, thank God!

Anyway, got back well pleased and ready 4 a good haggle... the final deal was....

16k service (as although it's done 18k the 16k service was not)
New chain & sprockets
New battery
3mth warranty - I did push for 12
Fresh MOT
And an extra ?100 on my RF9 trade-in

Soooooooo, I've gone and done it, come the 22nd March I will be a Bird owner.

Jaws says Blues ones are faster :}

Please break me in gently!

Time for a beer or five.

Cheers,

Paff

Good news Paff...
i really do think you have done the right thing mate.. All joking about colours aside, that red one had been severely abused in its short life.. So much so that I still have a nasty feeling the clocks might have been changed at sometime..
The deal you ended up with sounds excellent too.. I do not think that guy could believe his eyes when I pulled out the laser to check the lines ! And I KNOW he was gob smacked when I pointed out the subframes on BOTH were off ! ( Yet another Honda dealer type dude who never knew about the issue
:mad: )

And to answer Smudger, yup, he has already booked his tickets !

Nowt new :p just the old thing about the 99 and y2k rear subframes being slightly off to cock ( so the left hand silencer almost touches the swing arm )..
Always a good bargaining point when you can point it out to a dealer who does not know about it ! :}

...Someone told me it was caused by passengers gettin' on and off the bike... you know, like putting all their body weight on one peg as they climb on and off.

That right, d'you reckon...? Sounds feasible enough.

Sorry Rob, but whoever told you this has fallen for the first line Honda UK put out.. Their next was that it was caused by the centre stand coming up and clumping the silncer !!
The first was quickly dismissed when it was noticed that brand new, fresh out of the crate, bikes were the same !
It was caused ( very briefly ) by the subframes being very slightly out of wack.. They were within tolerance, but were out enough to cause the problem..
Since the early days this has been well documented mate.
If you pop along to the Help Forum and have a snoot there is a couple of ways to deal with it.

Welcome Paff

As we are near neighbours, give me a bell about meet ups when I get the bi-atch back on the road
