Didn't know that mate! So which products are used by the pros? Autoglym is already quite pricey, if pro stuff is 5 times more expensive, how do the valeters do to make any money?:dunno:

A lot of it is made by companys such as Arrow Chemicals..
For instance a 5 ltr container of road stain remover is ( was, a couple of years ago ) ?60(ish) but you had to dilute the stuff right down else you could wash a car away let alone the paint or decals !

Sparkles Valeters round the back of me were spending around ?300 a week on chemicals. They had to move in the end cos the environmental health peeps found out and wanted to know where all the run off was going !

According to my client who runs an Aston Martin restoration and bodywork shop, use Mr Sheen enough and it'll make your lacquer brittle :dunno:
wondered why my furniture at home was falling about :}

AutoGlym polish is used by members of the public on a Sunday morning who wish to use a nicely scented polish to go over their already highly polished BMW's.......Its crap!

I use 'Mer' on my own stuff mainly and use ?10 per gallon silicone based polish from 'AutoSmart', its got a good coverage, doesn't bind when its hot (makes it easy to polish off) and it leaves a very deep shine.
The silicone based polishes are good for darker cars where swirl marks show easily, there's not the need to rub too hard :blush:
TFR (traffic film remover) was ?40 for 25 litres and watered down 4 parts water-- 1 TFR. Alloy wheel cleaner is nothing more glorious than 'brick etch' which is thinned.
Dashboards and door panels were cleaned with a custom solution of TFR/Interior cleaner and FLASH liquid, 2 parts TFR/4parts Interior cleaner and 1 part Flash............then watered down with 10 parts water--1 part 'Johnny special combo'
As crap as it may really be, tyre shine finishes the job off a treat 'Rubber Oil' was a rubber specified dressing which was clear like baby oil and left a nice semi sheen finish like a new tyre.

If Autoglym is crap why do most car manufacturers reccommend it? We have just had our car treated with the Autoglym Lifeshine (at no cost to us) I have used Autoglym for many years since being advised by a colleague (ex car/bike mechanic) who uses it on both his and his wife's Mercs also their motorhome as well as on his Harley, knowing this guy he wouldn't use just any crap,
BTW what would you reccommend for a Matt black tank?

Bitter?
I have just bought my dream bike, I have lost over 10lb's in weight in just over a week, and I don't feel hungry, the wife has her new car so she is happy, we are going to have a long glorious summer this year, Ian I couldn't be further from bitter, life is great and I love everybody, and I will see you at Squires on sunday, although I don't know how long I can stop as I will be visiting my brother in LGI at some point, but I will be there.

DK, the car manufacturers who promote this 'TARTS' choice of polish are getting it on the cheap anyway and on new cars anything is ok as it doesn't really have to do anything....
To make a car in the real world look good then a trade polish with a mild cutting agent and a silicone base should be used. I spent a number of years valeting TVR Cerbera's, Bentley's,Jags and Corvettes blah blah blah and the stuff i used was far superior to AG. The only benefit to AG is it smells like expensive aftershave!
The stuff they did your car in is ok BUT if you use a jetwash / carwash etc then the solution they have in the soap will degrade the AG finish.
