Do you by Law have to have motor insurance for a motorcycle if its not used on public roads or land
and kept in storage on private land in a garage etc.
'You don't have to but, as Minkey said, if it's worth anything then get it insured. I have 'laid up' policies for some of my classic cars but I'm not sure if the same is available for bikes unless they're classics. I also insure two of my bikes which, although Sorned & therefore not for use on the highway, are still worth a few bob.

You only need insurance if any vehicle is used on a public road or other place to which the public have access by payment or otherwise and the vehicle must be insured for third party indemnity as a minimum (Road traffic act cover is the minimum for personal injury liability)
But if it is used entirely off road and in private where the public have no access, then no insurance required.
SORN is a sperate issue and relates to vehicle licencing and is unrelated to insurance in this context.
