TEAM SUZUKI ECSTAR HEADS TO CZECH MotoGP?

First of two back-to-back races in the second-half of the MotoGP? World Championship sees Brno in the Czech Republic host the 11th of the season this weekend.

Team SUZUKI ECSTAR riders Maverick Vi?ales and Aleix Espargar? approach the HJC Helmets Grand Prix Cesk? republiky race with different feelings: While Vi?ales will try to repeat ? and hopefully improve upon ? his 2015 performance where he fought very close to a podium position, Espargar? will have to overcome the injuries suffered last Friday at the Red Bull Ring race in Austria, where he fractured his left hand.

Overall, the previous race was a positive one for the team; although Espargar??s crash worried everyone, the improvements showed by both riders gave the Suzuki engineers added enthusiasm and more valuable data to work on.

Brno?s challenges include a number of elevation changes through forested hillsides as well as fast and slow corners, which test the rider?s skills and also engineering technology to the limit. The track has a length of 5.4 km (3.36 miles) with six left and eight right-hand corners.

Sunday's MotoGP race will take place over 22 laps for a total distance of 118.9 km (73.9 miles).

Maverick Vi?ales:

?I?m curious to go to Brno because it?s a track I like and last year I had a positive GP here. It is a fast circuit and yet technical, I think the GSX-RR can suit the circuit with its good-performing chassis and also the improvements we have done with the engine and the seamless; and compared to last year, I think this can give me further help for a positive weekend. Of course we still have some issues to face: The traction is not performing as well as I?d like, we are making some progress but it is not quite enough yet. The set-up will be crucial, but also the electronics will play an important role. My goal will be to work as hard as possible from the very beginning on Friday, and try to transform the positive feeling I have about the track into a positive result in Sunday?s race.?

Aleix Espargar?:

?The race in Austria was really tough for me, unfortunately the finger hurt a lot and I couldn?t keep proper grip on the handlebars when the tyre-drop started to make the bike move. This resulted in a retirement and it?s something I never like when it happens. I really tried hard until the very last lap because I wanted to finish the race, but it was impossible and I had to give up. We only had a couple of days of recovery before this Brno race, but I tried to work hard to recover as much as possible and I hope I will be in good condition for this weekend. The Brno track is a nice one, last year Maverick had a very good race and this year our technical package is even better, so I?m confident for a positive result. In Austria we made some improvements and steps forward with the machine, being competitive all weekend, so we will try to exploit that positive path we?ve found.?

Movistar Yamaha MotoGP Bring the Heat to Brno

Fresh from a podium fight at the Austrian Grand Prix, the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team heads to the Brno for this weekend's HJC Helmets Grand Prix Cesk? republiky. After a strong ride from Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi last Sunday, the teammates aim to further their championship challenge during this weekend's race at the Automotodrom Brno.

Lorenzo arrives in Brno in second place in the championship standings and with a confident mind-set after a third place in Spielberg. Thanks to the 16 points he collected last Sunday he decreased the margin to the rider leading the championship to 43 points with eight Grands Prix left.

This weekend the current World Champion aims to deliver another top result to further strengthen his record at the Brno circuit. Previously he secured a 125cc victory in 2004, two 250cc first places in 2006 and 2007 and a MotoGP win in 2010 and 2015.

Rossi also underlined his fast pace last week at a track that supposedly didn't suit the Yamaha and increased his point-total to 124 points. He looks forward to delivering another strong performance by making the most of the YZR-M1's strengths this weekend in the flowing hills of the Czech Republic.

The nine-time World Champion has fond memories of previous events at the Brno track. He secured his first ever 125cc win at the Czech Republic track in 1996, now twenty years ago. He followed it up with a 250cc victory in 1999, a 500cc first place in 2001 and modern era premier class Brno win in 2003, 2005, 2008 and 2009.

The Brno track hosted its first FIM Czech Grand Prix in 1987 and has been a fans' and riders' favourite thanks to its great atmosphere and stunning location. The circuit has a fast layout consisting of 14 corners in total (six left, eight right), a 636m longest straight, and multiple changes in elevation to test the bikes' set-up. The hills surrounding the circuit also offer spectators an excellent view so they won't miss a moment of the thrilling racing action.

Massimo Meregalli - Movistar Yamaha MotoGP Team Director
"After the race in Austria, we headed straight to Brno for the back-to-back race and we are determined to give it 100% as always. We are back at a track where we can definitely be strong: Brno is a very smooth track with fast corners, which suits our bike well. The team always enjoys this round and Vale and Jorge both have scored great results here in the past. They are both in good physical form and are looking forward to meeting the Czech fans again, who always give this Grand Prix a special atmosphere."
Jorge Lorenzo
Championship: 2nd, 138 points

"We achieved a great result in Austria after a difficult period for me, so I'm pretty happy to come back with a podium finish. I'm happy to ride again this week at Brno in a back-to-back race. That racetrack is beautiful and it suits the YZR-M1 perfectly. I like the Brno circuit a lot because it has plenty of high-speed corners and I have good memories there. Last year we dominated the race and I hope to have good feelings there again this time round. We need to stay in the fight again and try to recover some more points for the championship as we did in Spielberg."
Valentino Rossi
Championship: 3rd, 124 points

"I like that we go back on track immediately. In Austria I wanted to get on the podium but I wasn't able to so unfortunately. Anyway, it was a good race. After the tests we were a little bit in trouble but during the race we didn't do so badly. Now we go to Brno, a track that we know well and that I like very much. Last year Jorge was much faster than me and I'm curious to see if this year I will do better. We are working well and the Brno GP is close. I want to get back on track!"
No rest for prepared Tech3 duo as Brno battle approaches

Monster Yamaha Tech3 Team riders Pol Espargaro and Bradley Smith head straight to the Czech Grand Prix primed for the round 11 sprint where they aim to compete for the leading satellite position once again. The pair, who finished inside the top ten after what was a tricky weekend at Spielberg, are eager to get back on track and fight as close as possible to the factory MotoGP bikes at Brno.

Pol Espargaro seeks to produce a notable ride at the Czech circuit in order to consolidate his World Championship standing of 8th, as he currently leads the race for the top independent rider in the rankings. The Spaniard completed the challenging Austrian GP in 10th yet fully intends to go one step beyond in Brno with his sights firmly set on clinching a top eight finish on Sunday afternoon.

Whilst Bradley Smith aims to hit the ground running and repeat his expert performance from last year where he ended the race in 7th position and as the fastest independent rider. The British star, who just missed out on the top satellite honours in Austria despite riding at a notable pace in the round ten event, remains fully focused and confident about battling for a strong result on Sunday.

Pol Espargaro
Championship: 8th, 78 points

"I am excited about heading to the Czech republic because the circuit is great fun to ride and it also means that there is not long to wait until I can get back on my Yamaha to do my best on the track. The Austria weekend was tough and we always knew it would be due to the nature of the track, so to end up in 10th was kind of a damage limitation even though I obviously want to complete the race much higher up. I think that the Brno circuit will suit the Yamaha much more than Austria and I am sure that we can score a more rewarding result there which will help my championship position as the standings are getting more competitive all the time. I felt very comfortable on my M1 in Germany and I expect to regain the same confidence in the Czech Republic in order to be straight on the pace on Friday. I am confident that we can have a better time in Brno, and I'm looking forward to fighting near the front on Sunday."
Bradley Smith
Championship: 14th, 42 points

"As racing is a huge part of my life, I am pleased that there won't be any waiting around and I'm happy that we are heading straight to the Czech Republic for the Brno GP so that I can get back on my Yamaha and go for a positive finish. I was disappointed to just miss out on the top satellite position in Austria but I am convinced that I will have my chance this Sunday. This year will be the 11th time that I've raced in the World Championship at Brno and the circuit will never get boring for me, especially with the first corner which is definitely special to experience. Traditionally, the Yamaha's have been strong at that track due to its high-speed corners and layout so I am confident that I can use Yamaha's corner speed to my advantage. I will give my all to clinch a solid result, which will give me a boost ahead of the following GP which is my home Grand Prix at Silverstone."

Repsol Honda Team en route to Brno for Czech Republic GP

With just a few days to rest following the Austrian GP, Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa are heading to the Czech Republic for the next race, round 11 of the 2016 World Championship. A very popular venue with both riders and fans, Brno is an undulating 5.4 km circuit with a challenging set of six lefts, eight rights and five straights, the longest of which is 636 m.

Both riders have enjoyed good results in the past at Brno, with Dani making the podium on 10 occasions, winning in 2003 in the 125cc class, in 2005 in 250cc, and twice in MotoGP: 2012, when he was involved in a memorable battle with Jorge Lorenzo, and 2014. Marc has been on the podium four times at Brno, taking victories in 2012 in the Moto2 division and in 2013 in MotoGP. Last year he took second.

A one-day post-race test is scheduled for Monday, 22 August.

Marc Marquez 93

?We had a challenging weekend in Austria but we did the best we could and, all things considered, we were able to get away quite well. The shoulder didn?t bother me during the race but it was a bit sore afterward, so these couple of days before Brno have been good to rest a bit. Brno isn?t one of my favourite tracks but we?ve been able to get some good results there in the past. We must be really focused and work well in order to be able to fight for the podium again.?

Dani Pedrosa 26
?In this second part of the season, we should find some more suitable tracks for us. Of course Brno has some long straights that can be demanding for us, but it?s a track that I?ve liked since I started racing, and I always have a good feeling there. It?s very wide, with some very fast corners, and you must be able to hit the best lines to set good lap times, as it doesn?t forgive the smallest mistake. I just hope that the weather is stable so we can use all the practice time and try to build up some more confidence and speed.?

Difficult Friday for Octo Pramac Yakhnich at Brno: Petrux 13th, Scott 14th

The first day of free practice at Brno (Czech Republic) finished with Danilo Petrucci and Scott Redding, respectively in 13th and 14th position.
A complex day for Petrux on a circuit characterized, as well as the Red Bull Ring in Austria, by hard braking areas that the rider of Fiamme Oro didn?t manage to interpret in the best way today. Some good news from the improvements recorded in the afternoon when he was able to lower than 1 second and 3 thents his best time of FP1, but the Top 10 which means hypothetical direct access to Q2 on Saturday?s qualifying is still far (4 thents of a second).
Scott ended 14th today but all thing considered his practice has given more than a positive indication. The British rider made a strong start finishing the FP1 in eighth place and in the afternoon he seemed to have a good feeling in spite of a fall without consequences. A small technical problem did not allow him to exploit the whole power of his Ducati Desmosedici GP in the last run of the FP2

14th Scott Redding
1'57.090

Friday not easy as I struggled to find front grip. Before falling in FP2, the lap before I had a warning on the front, then on the next lap I was careful not to increase the speed at that point but it did not help. We need to work on the front because in this GP is very important to have this kind of feeling. We have fewer entry-grip than we expected, but we can still improve and I am confident.

13th Danilo Petrucci
1'57.052

It is not a good day. I had to risk using only the hard tires to keep every chance in qualifying, because of penalty (3 grid positions after the contact with Laverty in Austria). I struggle in strong braking areas and this is the most difficult circuit for brakes. It will be very important working on race distance race tomorrow because we are not competitive. We tried different set-up but we have not yet found the right solution.

Lorenzo and Rossi Straight Back on the Pace in Brno

The Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team delivered a solid performance today at the start of the HJC Helmets Grand Prix Cesk? republiky weekend. Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi firmly held the lead in both FP1 and FP2 for a large part of the 45-minute practice sessions and secured third and fifth respectively at the end of the first day at the Automotodrom Brno.

Jorge Lorenzo got straight down to business at the first day of the Czech Grand Prix. Just fifteen minutes into FP1 he dropped the first 1'56 lap of the weekend to temporarily take over the lead in the rankings from his teammate. The Factory Yamaha riders held their key protagonist status throughout the session, with Lorenzo finishing in third place after setting a provisional personal fastest time of 1'56.673s, 0.484s from the leader.

The Spaniard and his crew worked hard in the afternoon to perfect his setting and booked steady progress throughout the session. Having made some modifications to his bike, he posted a 1'56.228s in the final stages to take over the provisional lead and was also the first rider to clock a 1'55s, setting a 1'55.977s to ultimately end the day in third position, 0.137s off today's fastest time.

Rossi made his podium aspirations clear during the morning session. The Italian was pleased to find his setting working well from the start of the weekend and took provisional first place after ten minutes with a 1'57.113s before focusing on the balance of his YZR-M1. He was soon lapping in the low 1'56s to finish in second place, 0.265s from the front with a best time of 1'56.454s.

In the afternoon, the nine-times World Champion was eager to shave off a few more tenths in order to narrow the gap to the leading time. He again topped the rankings early on in the session and comfortably led until halfway through, when the times began to drop. His best time, a 1'56.174s positioned him in fifth place, 0.334s from first.

Massimo Meregalli - Movistar Yamaha MotoGP Team Director
"It has definitely been a positive day, especially compared to the first day in Austria. Both riders have been comfortable on their bikes since the beginning of the morning practice and they have been consistently fast in both sessions. We made progress between FP1 and FP2 and we were able to compare a couple of different tyre specifications, getting important information for this weekend's race. We still have a margin for both riders to improve in different areas and it will also be important to find the right tyre choice for Sunday afternoon."
Jorge Lorenzo
3rd / 1'55.977 / 32 laps

"Today we had a good day at the Brno circuit. In the morning during the practice some drops of rain came down and it was a bit colder but in the afternoon we found the track to be perfect with good conditions. We were able to be fast both on one lap as well as keep up the pace, so I'm quite satisfied with the bike. The track has some bumps, even more than last year, but it is the same for everyone. Tomorrow we have some margin to improve."
Valentino Rossi
5th / 1'56.174 / 35 laps

"The first feeling was not so bad: this morning and also this afternoon I was quite fast, we worked a lot. We have some different options and some different settings and also some different tyre choices on the front and the rear. I'm not so bad, I'm fifth but I'm not so far from pole position. All the top riders are fast so we have a lot to do, a lot of work on the bike, but the first impression is positive. The lean angles changed a lot compared to last year's tyres, because last year we were able to lean more, with Michelin a little bit less because it's a different shape of tyre. It's just a feeling that you have to understand, usually it's the bike that tells to you how much you can do, that's always the limit. The best riders are able to go close to limit but not too much."
Smith kicks off Czech GP with positive opening day

Monster Yamaha Tech3 Team rider Bradley Smith got off to a promising start at Brno and finished the opening day in 8th after conducting a thorough shakedown. The British rider leapt into action and began making the initial adjustments to the setup of his Yamaha YZR-M1 in FP1. He rounded out the session with a lap that left him just a blink of an eye outside the top ten, with his fastest time being cancelled due to exceeding the track limits. Then, in free practice 2, Smith carried on from where he left off and focused specifically on the behaviour of the tyres over race distance. In addition, he was able to impressively improve on his best time from this morning by 1.1 seconds, as opposed to the overall fastest lap which was cut by only three-tenths of a second. After undertaking a positive start today, the 25-year-old will now seek to continue the momentum tomorrow and seize a strong qualifying position.

On the other side of the garage, Pol Espargaro suffered a tricky first day in the Czech Republic as he started his round 11 campaign at the undulating Masaryk circuit. The young Spaniard got straight to work as he began taking the first steps in setting up his Yamaha YZR-M1 and he completed the opening practice in 13th after posting his best time on the last lap. The 2013 Moto2 World Champion remained focused, as he continued to adjust his MotoGP bike, and he completed sixteen laps in the afternoon session before eventually finishing in 15th. Now Espargaro determinedly looks on to tomorrow where he intends to reduce the gap to the top of the time sheets and also undertake a successful qualifying performance.

Bradley Smith
8th / 1'56.494 / 32 laps

"It was a good first day and the nice thing is that we were able to take some of the positives from Austria so we could continue to work on those points straight away. I always like the back-to-back races, because I feel more natural on the bike on a Friday and as a result, I got up to speed quite quickly. We commenced FP1 well and I felt comfortable with the setting straight away, but unfortunately my best lap time got cancelled as I exceeded the track limits. Having said that, it looked like I was inside the top 8 and then I remained in that position this afternoon. For the first two runs in FP2, we tried to work as much as possible on old tyres just so that we could understand our weakest points when the tyre starts to drop. Then after that, we extracted the best from the new set of Michelins and posted a competitive time. Brno is quite a bumpy track, therefore, having a stable bike is very important and this is what we will work towards tomorrow. We were able to confirm two of the tyre options for both the front and the rear today and we have a clear direction of where to head towards next. I've ended the first day positively, so we must try to stay inside the top ten so that we can pass straight through to QP2."
Pol Espargaro
15th / 1'57.335 / 31 laps

"This first day has not gone quite to plan with regards to the result but also when considering my feelings on the bike. Normally, Brno is a circuit where we have faced a few issues in the past, yet I hope that it would have been a bit different with the new tyres. During the first practice session, I didn't feel comfortable and we were working to find more rear grip, which is the main issue that I am struggling with. However, maybe we ended up trying too many things at once. In the afternoon, I rode both of my bikes which had different settings, but used the tyres from this morning, even then, the result hasn't been what we were expecting. Fortunately, at the end, we found a base that I'm quite happy with even if we are a bit further back at the moment. This evening we have a lot of work to do in the garage as we have to analyse all the data so that we can try to understand where we can improve, in terms of bike setting or my riding style. We will also analyse what the other Yamahas are doing so that we can understand what the differences are. Nevertheless, I am confident that by the third free practice we will have some new ideas that will allow me the rediscover the feeling that I had with the bike a few weeks ago, in order to help us to get back into the top ten."

SUZUKI ECSTAR IN THE MIX AT BRNO MotoGP?

Team SUZUKI ECSTAR?s Aleix Espargar? and Maverick Vi?ales improved their lap-times in today?s opening practice sessions at the HJC Helmets Grand Prix Cesk? republiky; both riding with completely different strategies.

In the cooler morning session, Vi?ales secured the seventh-best lap-time with a 1'57.176 around the 5.4 km Brno circuit in the Czech Republic with Espargar? a fraction behind on 1'57.538, that placed him 10th. But in the warmer FP2 this afternoon, Espargar? made a bigger improvement aboard his GSX-RR Suzuki with a time of 1'56.441 to finish seventh, with Vinales ? who consistently filled the top-four positions for most of the session ? ninth with a lap-time of 1'56.615.

Both adopted different strategies: Espargar? had to find back feeling with his injured hand ? incurred last week in Austria - and check the pain level and also his strength, but he worked consistently on fast-laps as the feeling improved; while Vi?ales instead chose to give priority to the race-pace, without any time-attack attempt, but working on tyre durability throughout.

Davide Brivio ? Team Manager:

?We?re happy that Aleix managed to ride, he?s suffering a little but he had a positive day of practice. He?s been fast and he?s getting a more-and-more positive feeling as he runs. He already found some improvements and so we?ll try to deliver him an even better machine for tomorrow. If we look at the classification, Maverick seems to be a little under expectations, but the truth is that he did a different job today, focusing on the pace-consistency rather than the single lap, also making some little experiments in terms of set-up and tyre management, so I would call this an ?Investment Day? for him. For these reasons my overview for today is positive; let?s work for even more performance tomorrow.?

Aleix Espargar?:

?Luckily my hand is feeling much better. In the morning I had to struggle with the pain, but in the afternoon it got much better. Only three days of rest are not much but I did a great job with the support of the Clinica Mobile guys who are helping me. I also have a specially-modified glove that allows me to feel more comfortable. All of this led to a positive day for me; we could improve the set-up and I feel comfortable with the machine. Here the track is very bumpy, but maybe I feel it even worse because we are arriving from the Red Bull Ring which was as smooth as a pool table. We suffer a lot of spin, which is unusual for me, but I feel very confident with the front. We have already made some steps forward from morning-to-afternoon, so if we manage to proceed positively tomorrow as well, it?s ?gonna be a good day.?

Maverick Vi?ales:

?At the last race in Austria we had issues with the grip of the tyres in the second-half of the race, so for this weekend we decided to better-understand the tyre management and today?s work has been dedicated to find more efficiency in the pace without compromising the performance on the long distance. I don?t like to see myself in ninth position, but we didn?t even try a proper time-attack today, and because of this I will have a double-chance tomorrow as we spared tyres. However, although we didn?t make a fast-lap attempt, my lap-time was consistently close to the top of the sheets; until others put in new tyres, this means we have room for improvement for the qualifying.?

HJC HELMETS GRAND PRIX CESK? REPUBLIKY FP2 RESULT:

1 Marc MARQUEZ - Repsol Honda Team - 1'55.840
2 Andrea IANNONE - Ducati Team - 1'55.944 + 0.104

Marquez sets the pace on day one in Brno after a spectacular save in FP2

It was a positive first day in Brno for the Repsol Honda Team, with Marc Marquez the fastest at the end of FP2 after once again showing his incredible talent and instinct by spectacularly saving a possible crash. Teammate Dani Pedrosa was 10th but improved both his speed and feeling with the bike over the day.

Marc was sixth in FP1 after having his fastest lap cancelled due to exceeding the track limit at turn 14, like many other riders. He was able to make a step forward in FP2, aided by a setup modification that improved his feeling enough to lower his time by over a second with a new tyre; tomorrow he will continue working with his team to also improve his race pace with used tyres.

Dani worked with his team on two different setups for his RC213V, one of which suggested several positives that he will try to confirm tomorrow before qualifying.

Marc Marquez 93
?Today was a positive day because we were able to improve significantly from the first to the second session. We?re still not where we would like to be, and although the position is good, the important thing is to work with the race in mind. In this respect, Jorge [Lorenzo] and Valentino [Rossi] have a very steady pace. We?ve been trying out many things, especially this afternoon, and now we have to assess what worked better for us and what we must continue looking at. In the afternoon we were a bit lucky to save a possible crash similar to one I had in 2014 at this same track during a testing session. This one was even bigger because it was very long and my lean angle was about 67.5 degrees. I just lost the front and when I saved it I told myself, Okay, let?s go back to the box to cool down a bit, because I was a little bit excited. It means that we?re pushing hard to find our pace. Tomorrow we?ll see if we can take another step forward, especially in terms of race pace, to be able to aim for the podium on Sunday. If we do that, then why shouldn?t we target the victory too?"

Dani Pedrosa 26
?Today we worked on two completely different settings from the morning to the afternoon and I think we made some improvements over the day. The changes we made were quite extreme, and tomorrow we?ll do some more comparisons to make our final choices. At this moment there are things good and less good in both settings, so we must choose carefully and then keep improving on them. Our position may not be the best yet but I think we?re closer to the front here in Brno than in the last race, so we have to keep working in this way. My last run today was a bit better and we need to work from that.?

Octo Pramac Yakhnich qualifying at Brno ends in Q1: Petrux 13th, Scott 14th

For the first time in the 2016 MotoGp season, Octo Pramac Yakhnich Team doesn?t manage to place Petrux and Scott in the qualifying for the pole position. At the same time both riders have given the feeling of having made a step forward compared to the difficulties encountered in Friday?s free practices.
Danilo Petrucci couldn?t beat Dani Pedrosa and Bradley Smith?s competition by finishing 13th in Q1. The Fiamme Oro rider will start from the sixth row tomorrow (16th position) due to the penalty after last week end clash with Eugene Laverty in Austria.
Scott Redding seemed likely to be able to center direct qualification to Q2 but on last corner of his last FP3 lap, a technical problem forced him to pass the finishing line maybe losing that one tenth of a second that would be enough to win the Q2. In Q1, however, the British rider was not incisive, finishing in 14th place (13th in tomorrow's grid by virtue of Petrux penalty).

14th (13th on grid)
Scott Redding 1?56.263

It has been a difficult weekend so far. It was for all the satellite Ducati except for Hector Barber?. My feeling, however, is growing and this is good. Unfortunately in Q1 some small details did not allow me to be competitive. The weather? I do not want to think about what will be the conditions tomorrow. The goal is to be First Independent or Top 8.

13th (16th on grid)
Danilo Petrucci 1'56.148

Perhaps it may sound strange but I can say to be quite happy with this day of activity. We are still quite far but we found positive indications mainly on race pace. Tomorrow race will be difficult because of grid position, maybe I'll struggle to see the light. But definitely I have to do a great job: I?m confident to do so.

ESPARGAR? & SUZUKI ECSTAR ON BRNO 2ND ROW

Aleix Espargar? put together one of his strongest qualifying performances of the MotoGP? season in today?s final Q2 at the Brno circuit in the Czech Republic, classifying fourth and being pushed-off a front-row starting position in the closing seconds.

Both Espargar? ? still in some pain from the fractured hand incurred last weekend in Austria - and team-mate Maverick Vi?ales, were always in the top positions at the HJC Helmets Grand Prix Cesk? republiky 11th round with both automatically making selection to Q2 from this morning?s FP3 session where Vi?ales finished fourth with a lap of 1?55.604 and Espargar? sixth on 1?55.793.

After both riders used FP4 to test various settings on their Team SUZUKI ECSTAR GSX-RRs, the final 15-minute Q2 session, to determine the front four-rows-of-the-grid tomorrow, saw Vi?ales the top Suzuki with seven minutes to go (in sixth), before Espargaro jumped into third position with less than 60 seconds to go with a time of 1'55.324. But he lost his front-row slot with a matter of seconds to go by just 0.097s.

Unfortunately, a technical issue prevented Vi?ales exploiting his second run with new tyres, therefore being unable to improve his lap-time. The front-end of his machine didn?t provide him the full braking power and therefore his performance couldn?t be at his best.

Davide Brivio ? Team Manager

?Aleix has been very good in qualifying, he managed to classify in fourth, despite not being at 100%. He did a great job, he improved his pace and refining more-and-more the set-up and he has the chance to have a good race, although the doubt is regarding his physical condition because of the injury he has in his hand. Probably also Maverick could have been closer, but he couldn?t exploit the second tyre because of a problem with his machine. We are very sorry for not having been able to deliver him a bike that could have helped him to get the first or at least second row, which he deserved. However, we?ve worked positively in the weekend and Maverick has a good pace, so he will have to struggle a little at the beginning but he could do a good race. We will also watch the weather, because if it rains, it will be another story.?

Aleix Espargar?:

?I?m satisfied with the job we did this weekend, we improved session-by-session and I felt comfortable with the machine. The hand is getting better, I suffered pain in the morning but then in the afternoon I had absolutely no issues. I?m still taking pain killers but my feeling is that the finger gets better when it warms up. In FP4 we worked positively for the race, we tried to find some solutions for the big spin I?m suffering here in order to get prepared for the last part of tomorrow?s race. I think this is going to be the key of the race; almost all riders suffer spin, so the one who will be the best to manage it will probably be the winner. Of course the race will be hard, but fourth place is a good position and I?m really looking forward to the race. With my team I?m working really positively, they are doing an excellent job in improving session-after-session. I had some bad luck this season and I really want to close this season with Suzuki in a positive way, hopefully being in the top-six in every single race.?

Maverick Vi?ales:

?Overall the day has been positive, this morning I improved the set-up and I felt very comfortable, then in FP4 we tested the pace and my performance was pretty satisfying. Unfortunately, the position on the grid is not the best one; when we changed the wheels for the second time attack with new tyres, something went wrong and I had issues with the front-end with the brakes not performing at 100% and this prevented me exploiting the best in the last minutes of the session. It?s a shame because I think that without this issue I could have aimed for the first or second-row, but we are a team and we will face this problem as a team. Eighth place allows a recovery, it won?t be easy, but I will give my best to try for a positive race.?

Lorenzo and Rossi Blaze to First and Second Row in Brno

Movistar Yamaha MotoGP's Jorge Lorenzo showed sensational speed at Automotodrom Brno today and secured second place on the grid for the Grand Prix Cesk? Republiky. Teammate Valentino Rossi also put maximum effort into this afternoon's qualifying session and will start tomorrow's race from sixth place.

Lorenzo underlined how comfortable he is feeling with his YZR-M1 in FP3 and FP4, topping both time sheets, and entered the Q2 session feeling confident that he would be able to put in a hot lap.

The reigning World Champion was the last rider out of the pits in the 15-minute qualifying session to ensure a free track for his first stint. His initial flying lap of 1'54.959s, 0.667s quicker than the rest of the field, took him to provisional pole.

With more than seven minutes to go he came into the pits. Just a minute later Lorenzo was back on the track and had three laps to show his pace. Still three-tenths ahead of his closest competitor, the Mallorcan rode against his own time and found another tenth, setting a 1'54.849s to further extend his lead. However, he was unable to improve on his last laps and ultimately secured second place, 0.253s from pole, when his rivals made a late charge just before the flag went out.

Rossi took his time to leave pit lane as qualifying got underway, allowing the majority of the pack to depart before heading out. He put in a 1'56.093s to slot into fourth place before being pushed back to seventh place when the pace quickened. His second flying lap shaved a little off of his previous best time, delivering a 1'55.509s to hold provisional fourth on the second row.

The Doctor returned to the pits to switch from a hard front tyre to a soft option and with six minutes on the clock hit the track again to put the pressure on. However, the nine-time World Champion soon got stuck in traffic and was unable to better his time. He finished in sixth place, 0.913s from first.

Massimo Meregalli - Movistar Yamaha MotoGP Team Director
"It was a very strong qualifying session from Jorge, he's had an impressive pace all day and set some really great lap times during Q2. It's unfortunate that Valentino got stuck in traffic at the end of the session while he was on a hot lap, because he could have been a contender for the front row. However, both riders are satisfied with their bikes. They have a good pace, even with the front hard tyre spec, so we are optimistic for tomorrow's race. It's a shame that the weather forecast for tomorrow isn't looking good, I really hope it won't influence the outcome of the race. Let's hope for either a fully wet or a fully dry race."
Jorge Lorenzo
2nd / 1'54.849 / 7 laps

"I probably pushed a bit too much, too hard and was late on braking so I had not enough corner speed to be fast on the second tyre. I think the second tyre performed a bit less than the first one, so ultimately I couldn't be faster. We are happy with second place, especially because we have a good pace and a good set-up to keep up in the race."
Valentino Rossi
6th / 1'55.509 / 7 laps

"It's a shame for me because I have a better potential and could've arrived on the front row because my ideal time would have been the third one. I pushed a lot on the second tyre, because I knew I could improve by half a second, but unfortunately I got stuck in traffic and we arrived there with everybody waiting, it becomes like a big casino, you have to risk a lot, it's a disaster. At the end I hadn't done a clear lap, but anyway the second row is not so bad, because if you are on the third it's more difficult. The second is for sure worst than the first, but anyway you are in the top group, so we need to wait for tomorrow and understand the conditions, if it will be wet or dry and also the temperature, if it's colder it will become more difficult for the front tyre."
Smith and Espargaro to bolt from fourth row in round 11 Brno challenge

Monster Yamaha Tech3 Team rider Bradley Smith will kick off the Czech Republic Grand Prix from 11th on the grid after pushing relentlessly today at the undulating Masaryk circuit. The young Briton started by determinedly battling in FP3 but he just missed out on the cut-off point, which meant that he had to compete in QP1. Here, however, he launched into attack mode immediately and completed the shootout only 0.064 behind the leading time, which confirmed his appearance in Qualifying two. Once this session began, Smith continued where he left off and immediately got on the pace. The British star eventually sped to his personal best on his final lap which left him only 0.606 from Valentino Rossi. Tomorrow, he will aim to leap forward and join the battle for the top independent position.

Meanwhile, Pol Espargaro will start the 22 lap fight from behind his teammate. The 25-year-old commenced the day by finishing the free practice three session in 8th after pulling off his best time on the penultimate lap, which was a huge improvement of 1.192 from yesterday. Once in QP2, he set off at speed in pursuit of seizing a top tier grid position. He built up his pace and eventually shot across the finish line after giving his all, and clinched a grid position on the fourth row, right behind his teammate. The leading independent rider in the 2016 championship will intend to close the weekend with a notable top eight finish.

Bradley Smith
11th / 1'56.115 / 7 laps

"To be perfectly honest, 11th on the grid is not an ideal starting point, but it has been a few races since I've been able to compete in Q2 so therefore I can't be too unhappy. However, I believe we have some more work to do because I feel that we're missing something and we've not improved as much as we would have liked. It seems as though everyone has progressed from yesterday to today, but we only made half a step. The Tech3 guys and I need to find some additional pace for the race tomorrow, and even though I am where I am, I want more from the team and myself. Nevertheless, I am certain that we will be able to fight well inside the top ten, and we will use the time until the GP to refine our setup for the 22 lap sprint. The weather is unpredictable at the moment, so we won't be completely sure of what it will do until it gets to race time, however, we will do some analysis tonight and be ready nevertheless."
Pol Espargaro
12th / 1'56.522 / 7 laps

"In FP3 this morning, I felt much better on my bike in comparison to yesterday which meant that I was able to improve the lap time straight away and I finished the session in 8th. Then, later on in Free Practice 4, I was riding comfortably but I made a slight mistake in corner 6 and I touched the painted white line on the inside of the corner and I lost the front. Unfortunately, when I went out with the second bike, I didn't have the same confidence and this is the reason for our qualifying result. I wasn't comfortable and I didn't feel as natural on the bike as I should have, plus I struggled to ride a similar pace to this morning. Nevertheless, I am convinced that with a bit more track time we will be back up to speed, just like we have shown this morning. In addition, the weather forecast for tomorrow is rain, so we have to wait until and see. Clearly, I didn't give myself an easy task starting from the back of the fourth row, but as soon as the lights turn green, I will push as hard as I can to fight for the leading independent rider position."

Scott is stunning on the the first 15 laps.Petrux ends up 7th after a great comeback.

An eventful Sunday for Octo Pramac Yakhnich, protagonist in #CzechGp after a difficult week end.
Scott Redding dances with Andrea Iannone and Andrea Dovizioso in the Ducati leading trio and remains glued to the # 29 until lap 15 when the front tire betrays him. Petrux, forced to start from the 16th position, manages to be consistent, catching position after position until the double overtaking on the last lap which earned him a valuable seventh.

Scott starts well from the 13th position and laps very fast. On lap 2, setting the fastest time, he is already third. Two laps later an other best-lap let him overtake Dovizioso. Halfway through the race he is still trying to catch Iannone then an abnormal consumption of the front tire, perhaps due to the soft compound that has not held up in less than ideal conditions as the track started to dry up, forced him to slow down to get to the finish line. For Scott only one point (15 ?) that sounds like a joke.

Petrux got off a good start too. Between the first and second lap, he easily passes Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo to place itself firmly between the seventh and ninth. Even when three laps to go Baz and Laverty were able to overcome him exploiting the hard rubber, Danilo remained focused and on the last lap he managed to pass Vinales and Iannone (whi experienced the same problem of Scott) for a precious seventh.

15th - Scott Redding

I was very happy with my race. I made a good start and was going well. I felt a great feeling and I was in control. The set up of the bike was perfect. I felt that the front tire was starting not to be performing but it was a normal thing, and I would even settle for Top 6. I was also able to recover some thents to the front group. But suddenly the uncommon degradation of the front tire cost me the race. It's a shame.

7th - Danilo Petrucci

I can not say to be particularly satisfied even if P7 is a good result. It has been a strange race. We had a good pace in the warm-up and we have made many changes. The tire choice was decisive. Maybe we could have a chance with the hard front but we have goals and I wanted to do the race on my target that is the Top 10. In the end I managed to reach the seventh and is not bad. I would like to thank the team and all the people who are close to me.

VI?ALES & SUZUKI ECSTAR TOP-10 AT TOUGH BRNO MotoGP

Team SUZUKI ECSTAR?s Maverick Vi?ales fought to ninth position in today?s Brno MotoGP? in the Czech Republic under difficult and changeable conditions as team-mate Aleix Espargar? was forced out after a strong showing earlier in the 22-lap race.

The 400th MotoGP race started wet and both GSX-RR riders opted for soft Michelin tyres, with a potential opportunity to pull-in to change machines during the race. But both stayed out ? as did most of the riders ? as the track dried in the closing laps.

In such tricky conditions, the choice of the tyres affected Vi?ales? final performance as the track didn?t dry enough for a flag-to-flag, but also was too demanding for soft wet tyres, resulting in that riders who chose hard wet tyres had an advantage towards the end of the race.

Different issues affected Espargar??s performance: After a very positive jump and a vigorous competitiveness for almost two-thirds distance, an issue with the engine prevented him collecting a deserved result. His performance has been more and more positive throughout the weekend, with a further step in the morning in the warm-up session where he found the final configuration for a set-up that allowed him to feel much-more confident.

Tomorrow the Team will stay in Brno for a day of testing with Vi?ales, as Espargar? will take available time to recover from his hand injuries, incurred last weekend in Austria.

Ken Kawauchi ? Technical Manager:

?Today?s result in terms of classification is disappointing, but from a development point of view, we must be happy. The last two races in the wet had been a real disaster, but today until middle, or even last part of race, both riders did a very good job. The race has been really difficult and the tyre choice affected our result, but Maverick did a very good run until the tyres wore-out too much. To Aleix I have to apologise; until he had the engine issue, he was having a very good race but he couldn't finish, so we need to investigate further in order not to have this happen again. The positive is that we?ve learned a lot about the wet conditions and we have found very effective solutions, so this means that we will be able to increase our competitiveness.?

Maverick Vi?ales:

?Probably we took the wrong choice with the tyres? We started with the soft thinking that the track would have gone to dry much quicker so to get to a flag-to-flag, but finally this didn?t happen so the performance finally dropped a lot. Anyway, I?m happy because if you see at the classification of those who had soft tyres, we are third, and furthermore we could make very good steps forward. Today I?m really happy, we are making solid progress in the wet, today I tried to catch-up with leaders but finally had to preserve the tyre and not crash. The bike was performing very well, I need to thank my crew because they did a very good job.?

Aleix Espargar?:

?This year is really unlucky. This morning in the warm-up we tried a modification in the very last run and I had the feeling it was correct, as I felt lot more comfortable and it helped me a lot in the start and in the first laps as I managed to stay close to the top. Then suddenly I felt something was wrong in the bike, the engine was not performing normally and I had to give up. It will be very important to go and understand what happened. At the end of the day it?s the first issue like this in two years of development, it?s frustrating, but it?s something that happens in races.?

Rossi Powers Through Field to Take Second in Breathtaking Brno Race

Movistar Yamaha MotoGP's Valentino Rossi brilliantly turned the Grand Prix Cesk? Republiky around today, claiming an incredible second place on the podium after making a perfect tyre decision. Jorge Lorenzo secured seventeenth position after being forced to switch machines twice due to a problem with the front tyre on his first bike.

Wet conditions made for uncertainty regarding the tyre decision at the start of today's race at the Automotodrom Brno. Rossi had a cautious start as he launched his Yamaha from sixth on the grid and dropped back to twelfth position, before picking up the pace. The Italian overtook his teammate for eleventh place but was then passed by Dani Pedrosa.

After waiting seven laps for his harder spec tyre to get up to temperature, The Doctor knew it was time to put the hammer down. He had to let Cal Crutchlow go in front and followed him to Pedrosa, Bradley Smith and Pol Espargaro, who he passed with 14 laps to go. A lap later Rossi gained a position as Andrea Dovizioso suffered a technical problem. The Italian kept following Crutchlow and continued to work his way past Danilo Petrucci and Maverick Vi?ales, as Aleix Espagar? retired from the race, and then set his sights on Marc Marquez in fifth place, overtaking him with seven laps to go.

Riding as the fastest man on track the nine times World Champion passed Hector Barbera a lap later and had the crowds cheering as he wrestled second place from Andrea Iannone. Rossi then quickly took off, creating a distance between himself and the Italian, but soon realised that the margin between him and the now leading Crutchlow had grown too large to close in the last four laps. The Doctor decided to settle for second place, finishing 7.298s from first and taking twenty points for the championship.

Lorenzo was on the same tyre combination as his teammate and took a while at the start to get heat into his tyres. From second on the grid he fell back to sixteenth place before being able to push hard. The Mallorcan made a charge in the second half to the race as his tyres started to produce more grip. What followed next was a flurry of overtaking manoeuvers as he fought his way to tenth place.

Lorenzo kept riding aggressively, but was forced to come in to the pit box with seven laps to go after losing much of the central tread from the front tyre. The unforeseen sudden pit stop forced him to change to his second bike which was fitted with slick tyres for a potential normal bike change in the flag to flag conditions. The track was still far too wet for slick tyres so he returned to the pit box a lap later to switch back to his first bike which had since been reequipped with a new front tyre. This then allowed him to finish the race in a disappointing and distant seventeenth place.

Rossi's second place moves him up to second position in the world standings with 144 points, 53 points behind the leader, with teammate Lorenzo six points behind him in third place.

Movistar Yamaha MotoGP now head to Silverstone in the UK for the British Grand Prix in two weeks' time.

Massimo Meregalli - Movistar Yamaha MotoGP Team Director
"After seeing today's weather forecast we knew that the game would be decided by tyre choice. We chose the hard rear for both Valentino and Jorge because we expected the track to dry very slowly and we thought that the hard option would let us finish the race without changing the bike. We were right! Of course we also expected the first laps to be difficult for both riders and they were extremely good to manage the situation. Valentino handled the beginning of the race with his usual calm and experience and he did not panic when he got back to 12th position. He was also reactive to understand when it was time to change the pace and attack. Second position is fully deserved and allows him to reduce the gap to the top of the standings. Despite the final result, Jorge's race was impressive. Without the problem of the front tyre, he could have been on the podium. All team members worked really hard from Friday and especially today during the race, as they were ready to face all circumstances. We will now stay in Brno until tomorrow for the IRTA test to work on some new parts and have a direction for the second half of the season."
Valentino Rossi
2nd / +7.298 / 22 laps, Championship: 2nd / 144 points

"At the beginning I was desperate because I thought we made a mistake, but lap by lap the hard rear became better and it was a very long race, you have to stay concentrated not to make a mistake. I started from p12, so it was a great race and I'm happy with these 20 points, also because I'm second in the championship and I think today we did a good job and we made the right choice."
Jorge Lorenzo
17th / +1 lap / 22 laps, Championship: 3rd / 138 points

"It's a big pity because I was doing a great race, only I had some difficulties stopping the bike at the beginning when there was a little bit more water and especially with the hard tyre on the exit I didn't have grip. I needed to be very careful and that is why I was quite far from the top. Little by little, as the track dried, the rear became better and I started to gain confidence, so seven laps before the end the front tyre tore up so I had to change bike twice and finished the race on the first bike in seventeenth. Rossi was unlucky in Mugello and I was very unlucky today, a lot of bad luck this season. We have to work, so this doesn't happen more often, because we see it happen sometimes in the dry and today in the wet and we have to try not to have more tyre mishaps in the future."
Espargaro clinches valuable points in tough Czech Grand Prix

Monster Yamaha Tech3 Team rider Pol Espargaro persevered against the challenging conditions at the Czech Grand Prix to finish in 13th after what was a tricky race for the 25-year-old. The Spaniard kicked off his round 11 campaign from 12th on the grid and immediately ran with the factory MotoGP bikes at the front of the field. He slipped to 8th on the third lap but pushed onwards as he aimed to stay with the leading group. As the track began to dry Espargaro was shuffled back, despite his best efforts, and by lap fifteen he was running in 13th. Eventually, he met the chequered flag in this position to close what was a tough weekend. Today's result sees the 2013 Moto2 title winner move up to 7th and as the top independent rider in the 2016 World Championship standings and he now intends to produce a strong result at the next round after tomorrow's test in Brno.

Meanwhile, Bradley Smith endured a disappointing end to the event after unfortunately suffering with a technical issue which caused him to retire from the Grand Prix. The Briton leapt forward from the middle of the fourth row of the grid and quickly set about moving through the pack as he completed the opening lap in 9th. He was pushed back one position a short time later, but remained focused and did his best to preserve his tyres for the second part of the race. However, at the midway point, the 25-year-old had to pit due to a technical issue with eight laps left to run. Nevertheless, Smith fully aims to bounce back in front of his home fans at the British Grand Prix in a fortnight's time.

Pol Espargaro
13th / +43.202 / 22 laps, Championship: 7th / 81 points

"This morning in the warm-up I struggled quite a lot in the wet but to be honest, we managed to improve the bike significantly for the race. Therefore, I was able to pass many riders at the beginning of the GP as I felt really comfortable. However, when the track started to dry, I began to face some difficulties because I lacked grip and traction, but I tried to keep my pace without making any mistakes so that I could take home as many points as possible. I believe that today we weren't able to use the electronics to their best potential, plus I think the hard rear tyre would have been a better choice, especially at the end of the race. Yet, I rode this compound for two laps and I didn't feel 100% happy with it, so we went for the option that we used in the warm up. Now I really hope that we'll have a dry race in Silverstone because with no rain, we are usually strong and we will be able to show our true potential."
Bradley Smith
DNC / 22 laps, Championship: 15th / 42 points

"Of course, it's disappointing to have another DNF for a technical issue, especially as my race was running positively up until that point. The opening lap went quite well, and I was able to make up a few positions plus, I felt quite comfortable on the bike. When the track started to dry, I could increase my pace and push harder so that I could go with the guys close to me. Still, at the same time, I was looking after my tyres because I was certain that tyre management would be crucial at the end of the race. Yet, unfortunately, I didn't have the chance to prove that as I had to pit in. The riders who I was close to before I pitted, ended up finishing in 5th and 6th so this is where I would have seen myself at the end of the race and that definitely would have been a good result ahead of my home GP. Considering that it was one of the weekends where we were closer to the front from the word go, it's a big shame, but also due to it being the second time I've had to retire because of a technical issue in 2016, which is just bad luck. However, with the test tomorrow, we will go over a few things which will boost my confidence for my home Grand Prix at Silverstone, which is up next."
