POSITIVE OUTCOME FOR SUZUKI ECSTAR AT SEPANG TEST

Team SUZUKI ECSTAR has completed a successful private test session at the Sepang circuit in Malaysia today, where Maverick Vi?ales and the test team debuted Suzuki?s new seamless gearbox on the GSX-RR.

Vi?ales was supported in the two-day test by Takuya Tsuda and Nobuatsu Aoki, who ran many laps to supply Suzuki?s R&D department in Japan with useful information and data before the winter break.

Unfortunately, Aleix Espargar? couldn?t join in because of the injury he suffered recently while training that caused him a flexion fracture to a vertebrae and required a two-to-three-week lay-off.

New items tested by Vi?ales, Tsuda and Aoki were the new Michelin tyres and unified software, which will be introduced from 2016 to all MotoGP? teams, but also the long-awaited seamless gearbox that equipped both the test machine and Vi?ales? Factory GSX-RR. Together with many improvements in set-up configuration and electronics, the three riders carried out intensive work and left the test very satisfied with the progress.

Vi?ales reported that he had very good feeling with the evolution of his GSX-RR and gave positive feedback about the new seamless gearbox, along with the new electronics. All areas are still to be explored and developed further in Japan over the winter.

Davide Brivio ? Team Manager:

?These have been two very intense days but the outcome of the test is positive. We had few things to test, among which we managed to test the new seamless gearbox and I am happy that Maverick had a first positive impression. We also had the chance to compare some chassis parts and gathered important information for the winter development. We also started to work with the 2016 unified software - the test team already started with it in Valencia a couple of weeks ago - and we also gave it to Maverick. On this area we still have much work to do but the start was positive. For us this test has been very important to give the directions to work-on in the winter that we were called to do. We also tested new tyres for Michelin and found some good improvements to be worked on further in the future.

?In February we will be testing here again for the first IRTA test and we will try to finalise then even further improvements, especially in electronics. Unfortunately, Aleix could not join us so he will have a chance to test those items in February, hopefully after further improvements. We also had the support of our test riders Tsuda and Aoki who ran many laps to further investigate the new software and fine-tune the seamless gearbox.?

Maverick Vi?ales:

?These two days have been very intense; we tested many many things and I?m happy because I could try the 2016 electronics. The first touch was positive and it left me with the feeling that it has a great potential, but we still have so many things to work on and there?s room to improve. I?m also happy I could test the new seamless, we were expecting it and my impression is very positive. The track was not really clean which meant I couldn?t push really hard, but for our team the testing was good. Now we have plenty of information to work on during the winter and get ready for the next test in February. To go for the winter break with such a good feeling is positive and it gives me great hopes for the further improvements. Now I can take a little rest and then start training again to be ready for the next tests in February.?

Redding, Petrucci, Guidotti and Romagnoli talk about Jerez Test

Jerez tests mark the end of the 2015 activity for OCTO Pramac Racing who can enjoy the winter break with the certainty of having done a great job both in terms of ?welcoming? Scott Redding and approaching the new Ducati Desmosedici GP.
The two days of work in Jerez saw Danilo Petrucci (64 laps completed today, 43 in the first day) and Scott Redding (50 and 54) setting interesting laptimes while working to become familiar not only with the new bike but with the Michelin tires and the new electronics package.
Scott went out this morning with a new set of tires lapping in 1'38.9 just two tenths of a second slower then the fastest time recorded by Jorge Lorenzo in the last Grand Prix in Jerez. Petrux managed to mantain a very consistent race pace recording a quickest lap time of 1'39.2 with used tires.
Redding, Petrucci, Guidotti and Romagnoli talk about Jerez Test

Scott Redding - OCTO Pramac Racing Team # 45

We did very well in these two days as we were able to lower the laptime by more than a second. The feeling grows run after run and also with the tires things are going well. I feel I have a lot of confidence with the bike. We worked on the weight distribution finding a good pace. I am very satisfied with these tests and I look forward to going to Malaysia.

Danilo Petrucci - OCTO Pramac Racing Team # 9

Two days very positive. I was fine with the tires and the new software. Maybe I missed something in the fast lap but the race pace is very good. The conditions were more favorable compared to the race but I have been lapping very quick and this makes me happy. I thank the team who did a great job during these two days and throughout the season. The feeling with the bike has improved a lot. I go on vacation happy.

Giacomo Guidotti - Crew chief OCTO Pramac Racing # 45

The Jerez test was much more productive than that of Valencia where we put the bases by introducing the new electronic and beginning to discover the tires. These days have been very intense in terms of set-up and we are very happy because Scott was very quick this morning with the new set of tires. We're going home with a lot of data and information to work with and with a lot of confidence.

Daniele Romagnoli - Crew chief OCTO Pramac Racing # 9

A positive test as we managed to complete the work that we had planned, trying to gain confidence with the tires and with the new bike. We got a good set-up on which we will start to work again in the next test at Sepang. The bright spot was lapping in a fairly consistent pace even with the use tires as we didn't manage to do often in the 2015 season.

Pramac Racing celebrates its 15th anniversary in MotoGp and presents Octo Pramac Yakhnich
Pramac celebrates 15 years at the MotoGP starting line. The celebration is taking place at Pramac?s headquarters in Casole d?Elsa, Siena, where it all began in 2002. After having experienced Formula One, Pramac turned towards the two-wheeled world and entrusted the rider Tetsuya Harada with the Honda NSR 500.
The first major success for the team came in 2003 when Makoto Tamada won third place at the Brazilian Grand Prix, and the following season brought Pramac Racing and Bridgestone to the highest spot on the podium of the historic Japanese GP.
In 2005, Pramac Racing signed an agreement with Ducati, and in 2007 Alex Barros won third place at Mugello.
The hero of the 2008 season was Toni Elias, who won two consecutive podiums, the first at Brno (second place) then at Misano (third place).
Last season, Danilo Petrucci was chosen to substitute Andrea Iannone, Pramac MotoGP Ambassador, who was called from the house of Borgo Panigale after a great season with Octo Pramac Racing. Petrucci was the rider who brought the Pramac Racing team to the podium by winning second place at the Octo British Silverstone GP.

During the celebratory event hosted by the well-known Sandro Donato Grosso from Sky, the new liveries for Octo Pramac Yakhnich?s two Ducati Desmosedici GP?s were presented. They received positive results during the last tests of 2015 performed at the Jerez circuit and Danilo Petrucci and Scott Redding will be racing with them starting at the beginning of February with the Sepang test. Several riders took to the Octo Pramac Yakhnich stage after Paolo Campinoti?s opening remarks, which retraced 15 years of Pramac?s MotoGP history. In an entertaining video, riders recounted the team?s history: from Alex Barros to Toni Elias, from Max Biaggi to Loris Capirossi and to Andrea Iannone, Pramac?s MotoGP ambassador, and surprise guest Carmelo Ezpeleta, who wished Paolo Campinoti and the team good luck in the upcoming 2016 season.

Paolo Campinoti (CEO Pramac and Principal of Pramac Racing Team)

It is a special day for all of us. We are about to start the 15th Pramac Racing MotoGP season and to celebrate we have returned to the place where it all began. In 2002, the presentation of the first team was held here and we are proud to be at Pramac once again to reaffirm, if there was ever a need, the strong bond between our company and the Team.

We are coming from a season rich with accomplishments, the highlight being the podium won by Petrux at Silverstone. But Pramac is ambitious. The company is ambitious and the team should be as well. Therefore, we are looking forward to doing even better in 2016 with Danilo and the newest team member, Scott Redding, in whom we have great trust.

Once again, we will also have OCTO by our side, who enthusiastically joined us for the 2015 season and celebrated our fantastic victory at the podium of the OCTO British GP. We would like to welcome Yakhnich, and thank all of our partners who continue to put their trust in us. We consider them friends before sponsors.

We are prepared to do our best this upcoming season, a season which I hope ? and I am certain ? will be exciting thanks to the Desmosedici GP, which Danilo and Scott already feel at home on. Pramac Racing is part of the Ducati family and 2016 marks the 12th consecutive season of this relationship which began in 2005, and which I hope will be stronger and more rewarding.

Francesco Guidotti (Team Manager Octo Pramac Yakhnich)

This is an evening charged with emotion for me. To celebrate 15 years of Pramac Racing after already experiencing 5 years is a really wonderful feeling. I have lived a third of Pramac Racing history. We are coming from a season filled with accomplishments.

Thanks to Danilo, the team reached the podium for the first time since 2008, but our goal is to do even better. The only person who cannot do better is the person who wins. Technical regulations have shuffled the cards, so we are talking about an important breakthrough. We have to work hard for this. But we are starting with great enthusiasm because a great challenge lies ahead of us. How much we can improve is difficult to say. Last year we bet on Danilo and we were right. This year we are betting on Scott and relaunching Danilo. It will be a season with many new opportunities, but we are ready to face new challenges and we can?t wait to get on the racetrack and battle it out.

Danilo Petrucci (Octo Pramac Yakhnich #9)

I am very pleased to be here, and be a part of the Pramac family for the second year in a row. I am especially happy because I have found a close-knit group that has not changed. The great relationship I have with Daniele Romagnoli and all of the guys on the team reinforces the trust between us. I can?t wait to begin because there is so much to do, especially in light of the new regulations. I have a great desire to do better. The tests went very well, especially at Jerez where we made great strides forward compared to Valencia. I would like to thank the sports group Fiamme Oro, and those who have spent these last months with me: my trainer Marco Baglioni and my friends Tommaso and Filippo, with who spent I spent a great week in Sardegna. This retreat recharged me and gave me strength. And then I would like to thank my family. I am ready to do my best for my fans and supporters. Rest assured, I will give my all!

Scott Redding (Octo Pramac Racing #45)

I am very excited. I got a fantastic feeling riding the moto during the first round of tests at Valencia. I immediately felt comfortable on the Ducati and it was a great sensation. I have to say that when I entered the box and met my new team in Valencia, the atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming. The guys welcomed me and I felt a desire to do my best. I feel that they have high expectations for me, but at the same time they do not put pressure on me. During the tests, my conversations with Giacomo Guidotti and the crew went perfectly, we immediately clicked. And then, as I said, the bike is insane. The weather wasn?t excellent in Valencia, but the main goal was to work. And, in fact, at Jerez we did an amazing job. I would like to thank Pramac and Ducati for choosing me and I can promise all of my fans and fans of the team that I will do everything I can to accomplish great things in 2016.

Fabio Sbianchi (Ceo Octo Telematics, title sponsor 2016 di Octo Pramac Yakhnich)

Our partnership with Octo Pramac Racing Team represents the ideal platform to demonstrate the qualities Octo possesses: competence, passion and innovative technology united in a global vision. These are the values that drive success, as Danilo Petrucci demonstrated on the podium at the Octo British Grand Prix. We will do everything we can, because this year will be filled with opportunities and accomplishments.

Alexander Yakhnich (President of Yakhnich Motorsport)

Yakhnich Motorsport is proud to introduce a new partnership together with Russian Motorcycle Federation and the Government of the Russian Federation and presents a unique Russian-Italian project aiming for the further development of motorsport in Russia. The "Octo Pramac Yakhnich" cooperation is not limited to the sports theme. It is also associated with the implementation of innovative investment projects in Russia. Pramac and Ducati with Yakhnich Motorsport and its partners, is the joint work on the overall result, which we are sure will be expressed in the coming victories!

Niccol? Gasparin (Executive Vice President Reserve & Mobility Power Solutions di FIAMM SpA)

It is an honor for FIAMM to reaffirm its partnership with the Octo Pramac Racing Team for the MotoGP 2016 season. From a results point of view, the great work achieved by the team over the last few years has been rewarding. The ?queen? class of the world championship this year promises to be even more exciting and for FIAMM to be beside Octo Pramac Racing Team and Ducati for this new adventure represents a source of pride and an opportunity to present Italy as a champion of innovation to the wor

Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. announce that Yamaha and Monster Yamaha Tech3 Team-rider Pol Espargar? will go their separate ways at the close of the 2016 MotoGP season, when the Spaniard will start new racing challenges.

Espargar? followed up this successful year by taking ninth place in the final rankings in the 2015 season, with the highlight of finishing as the highest satellite team rider in Assen and Valencia with two fifth places.

In addition to the MotoGP program, Espargar? also secured the win for Yamaha at the 2015 Suzuka 8 Hours endurance race where he teamed up with Tech3 teammate Bradley Smith and Katsuyuki Nakasuga.

Movistar Yamaha MotoGP Successfully Complete Catalunya Test

Fresh from yesterday's Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya, the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP riders were back on track today to complete the one-day Catalunya MotoGP Official Test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi took time to try some new Michelin tyres and there was also an opportunity for them to test a new chassis for the 2016 YZR-M1 and work on some small set up changes to further improve the balance of their bikes.

Movistar Yamaha MotoGP riders Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi returned to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya today to undertake a detailed testing programme. Whilst putting some new items to the test, Lorenzo completed 49 laps and finished the one-day Catalunya MotoGP Official Test in second place.

Rossi arrived a bit later to the scene where he secured a brilliant win a day earlier, and used the final three hours of the session to help develop some new Michelin tyres. He ended the day in eleventh place.

One hour into the eight-hour long test session, Lorenzo entered the track and started work on his YZR-M1. He spent most of the morning getting familiar with the new items before it was time to pick up the pace in the early afternoon. After already having completed yesterday's full race distance, he clocked a 1'44.202s on his 26th lap, moving up to provisional first place. His time remained unchallenged until the very end of the session, when the Mallorcan rider had already finished his testing programme for the day. Lorenzo ended second in the final results, 0.239s from the front.

With three hours of the session remaining, teammate Valentino Rossi joined his rivals on the Catalan track. He steadily improved his best time over the first hour before entering the top nine when he set a 1'45.454s on lap 23. The Doctor then put his full attention towards developing his bike. Whilst thoroughly testing some new Michelin tyres and a new chassis for his YZR-M1, he got pushed back to eleventh place in the test results and finished 1.491s from first.

Tomorrow the team will be back on track for another private test in Catalunya.

Massimo Meregalli - Movistar Yamaha MotoGP Team Director
"After already three days of riding, Jorge, Vale and the team again put in a lot of effort and this made it a successful test so far. We stuck to our schedule and were able to test and compare the required materials for the day. The riders used this one day of official testing to try out a new frame, two rear-arm specifications and they also helped develop the front and rear tyres brought by Michelin. The initial feedback from the riders on the chassis and the tyres was positive. Tomorrow we will continue our test programme and the main task is to decide which chassis is better. If we conclude that the new frame is better, we might have it ready at the next round in Assen. So far we can be satisfied with today's results because Jorge rode an impressive lap in the 1'44.202s on used tyres, which is almost as fast as his pole position lap and shows we are making good progress. Valentino mainly focused on testing the Michelin tyres. His feelings were positive, so we will continue to work on this concept when we are back on the track tomorrow for a private test, which we will use to make our final comparison between the options we tested today."
Jorge Lorenzo
2nd / 1'44.202 / 49 laps

"It was a positive test. After my crash yesterday I felt quite some pain, especially in my leg, but some pills made me feel better, so I could get through the day quite well. I tried many things, especially some new tyres from Michelin on the rear, some of the them had quite a positive effect on acceleration, and a new chassis from the team, which also gave us some positive points that we will test further tomorrow."
Valentino Rossi
11th / 1'45.454 / 42 laps

"It was a good test. We concentrated on the tyres and we found something good so the rear tyres are working better than yesterday, but now we have a bigger task because we have to try new things that Yamaha have brought here to test, which will be very interesting for the rest of the season. I tried the new chassis and the first impression was OK and tomorrow we will continue with the rest."
Tech3 pair complete successful post Catalan GP test

Monster Yamaha Tech3 team rider Bradley Smith leaves Barcelona feeling optimistic for the future rounds after undertaking a thorough post-Catalan Grand Prix test today. The British rider concentrated mainly on the new Michelin tyres, as he evaluated all three of the new rear compounds available plus he tested different rear suspension options. He tirelessly lapped the circuit 83 times, which was more than any other MotoGP rider, but also crashed at turn five on his last lap. The 25-year-old set his best time mid way through the day and on his 44th lap, which left him less than a second from fifth. Having reached a positive conclusion, the 2015 fastest satellite rider now keenly awaits the forthcoming Motul Dutch Grand Prix where he intends to clinch the top independent honours.

On the other side of the pit box, Pol Espargaro rode relentlessly as he focused on the new tyres and additionally electronics and suspension settings with encouraging results being achieved. The young Spaniard got straight to work this morning in perfect conditions under the Catalan sun and eventually concluded the day by completing 48 laps, with his quickest time being set on just his third. The 24-year-old focused on setup solutions but a small crash, which he walked away from uninjured, did not slow his work rate. After a constructive day, the leading independent rider in the championship standings now confidently looks on to the next round at Assen in a fortnight's time.

Bradley Smith
12th / 1’45.670 / 83 laps

"In general, today was positive and we can leave Barcelona feeling content with what we achieved at the test. After the technical issue in yesterday's race, I am really pleased to complete 83 laps without any issues at all. I did a lot of tyre testing this morning for Michelin and they brought some interesting options so I'm excited to see how the tyres will evolve in the future. With regards to our setting, the main area of focus was the rear of the bike, which seems to be where I'm most sensitive at the moment. We had quite a few different rear shock solutions that we wanted to try and although the result won't necessarily boost the performance, it will certainly make our weekend easier if I am struggling like I was here. Now, we have a good direction as well as more of an understanding about my YZR-M1. I'm always happy about these types of test because, like in Jerez, I can leave with more knowledge and added confidence for the package that I have. I will rest up now for two weeks and then get ready for Assen which I am looking forward to."
Pol Espargaro
13th / 1’45.835 / 48 laps

"Overall, the test was successful and we can leave here feeling pleased with what we discovered. We worked on the tyres, the clutch and suspension settings, but the main area of focus was to try to improve the rear grip which was our weakness this weekend and we have made good progress even if I didn't really go for a fast single lap time. With regards to the tyres, I sampled one new option and I ran ten consistent laps on it. It felt really good because there was stability at the beginning of a run and the drop off was not big, similarly to the medium option. We collected some good information and the best improvements are the traction and the increased stability, which is key. I don't know exactly when this tyre will be introduced, but my feedback is positive. For the suspension, we adjusted the rear shock as we had a lack of grip on the rear, so I tried three settings and found some encouraging results. Considering that we were already competitive yesterday, I am now confident that I can be even stronger because of today's outcome. I am pleased with the race performance because it was the first time that we were competing with the front guys so we deserved our result here and with the knowledge that we have gained, the team and I are optimistic for Assen."

Alex Lowes to Test Monster Yamaha Tech3’S YZR-M1 in Monday Brno Test

Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK rider and 39th "Coca-Cola Zero" Suzuka 8 Hours Endurance Road Race winner Alex Lowes will join the Yamaha MotoGP rider line-up for Monday's Brno Test. Fresh from their success at Suzuka, Lowes will be reunited with his Yamaha Factory Racing endurance teammate and Monster Yamaha Tech3 Team's Pol Espargar? at the Automotodrom Brno following this weekend's HJC Helmets Grand Prix Cesk? Republiky.

As an expression of gratitude for his superb endurance performance, Yamaha will invite Lowes to experience Espargar?'s YZR-M1 as part of the official IRTA test organised at the Czech circuit on Monday 22nd August.

After the pair's amazing achievement in Japan a month ago where Espargar? had the opportunity to enjoy the YZF-R1 for a second time, it is now the Briton's turn to swap wheels and step aboard the Tech3 Yamaha YZR-M1. Lowes is greatly looking forward to his first chance to sample the GP machinery with his main goal during the test focused on adapting his riding to the YZR-M1.

Alex Lowes - Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Rider
"I'm really looking forward to Monday's test on the YZR-M1. I'm very thankful to Yamaha for providing me the opportunity, and to Herv? Poncharal and the Monster Yamaha Tech3 team for making it possible. Brno is a fantastic circuit and it will be good to work with Pol again, from inside his own garage this time! It's been a good month already with the Suzuka victory and a really positive test this week on the World Superbike. Yamaha giving me the chance to try one of the best MotoGP bikes in the world will be a great experience for me as a rider and really is the icing on the cake!"

POSITIVE DAY OF TESTING AT JEREZ FOR SUZUKI ECSTAR

Team SUZUKI ECSTAR concluded a positive day of testing in Jerez de la Frontera in Spain today; the team?s final testing until 2017 with factory riders.

Following last week?s test session in Valencia, the team travelled to the Andalusian circuit with new factory rider Andrea Iannone and Team Suzuki Test Rider Takuya Tsuda, who substituted for Alex Rins, who is still recovering after the injury he suffered during last week?s crash.

The cold temperature of Jerez didn?t allow the riders to push to their limit, but the main objective of the test was not to chase the time attack but to test many things that were useful to determine the development over the winter. In particular, the focus was on different specs of the engine in order to find the best direction according to the riders? needs.

Iannone made impressive work on this, giving the engineers important information to work on, while Tsuda focused more in testing different settings in electronics and collecting a lot of data.

Thanks to the positive work done today the full testing program for Iannone was already completed, so he will not ride any more before the first official testing of 2017 at the end of January in Sepang. The Team will stay in Jerez for more testing with Tsuda.

Davide Brivio ? Team Manager:

?We achieved a good result in making the whole testing program in only one day with Iannone. After having lost the concessions we want to save testing days for the future and having completed all the tests we needed we won?t have him ride more. Our purpose here was not the chase to the fastest lap but to allow him to improve his feeling with the machine and help us to determine the future development. We brought here some different specs of the engine that he tried, and he gave us the direction to take in the winter. We will not develop a brand new engine for 2017, we will develop an evolution of the actual engine and Andrea gave us the feedback we needed to understand which character of the engine to develop, according to his experience and needs. He did a great job today, very intense until the very end of the available track time, and we must thank him for this contribution.

?We have here our test rider Tsuda, who is focusing more in collecting information for the electronics development. We are trying to find a better efficiency in our settings and we will continue this work with him also tomorrow. The objective of course is to gain experience and find more options.

?Alex Rins could not join us in this test because of the injury he suffered in Valencia last week. We are very happy to know that he is getting better and better, his recovery path is proceeding well. He is now at home and enjoying some rest, he will need three-to-four weeks but in a few days he will already start some work in the gym. Of course he cannot put any effort in the back, but he will be able to start with some light work. It?s a pity he couldn't attend this test because he needed some mileage with the GSX-RR to get used to it, but we?re happy that his recovery is going well. We are all eager to see him again in Sepang, where we believe he will be fully fit.?

RS TAICHI PARTNERS TEAM SUZUKI ECSTAR

Team Suzuki Press Office ? January 27.
RS Taichi will be the clothing of choice for Team SUZUKI ECSTAR this coming season, providing all the technical sportswear that the Hamamatsu team will use throughout the MotoGP? calendar.

This Japanese brand of technical motorsport competition apparel, based in Osaka, has more than 30 years of experience in the manufacture of specific clothing designed exclusively by and for motorcycle riders.

Considering the difficulties of working for the team crew during a race weekend with constant weather changes, ultraviolet rays or sweat, RS Taichi has chosen the best materials and patterns to meet the requirements of Team SUZUKI ECSTAR.

RS Taichi company was formed in 1975, after Japanese rider Taichi Yoshimura ? an official Suzuki rider from 1966 to 1972 - retired from motocross in 1974 and set out to pursue his dream of the ultimate motorcycle store. Taichi?s vision was to collect all his knowledge and experience and transform this into the best performance products.

Hiroshi Matsubara - RS Taichi President:

?We are very happy and honoured to be the official supplier of team wear for Team SUZUKI ECSTAR. RS Taichi makes a wide variety of riding gear for street riding to racing suits. We would like to use our experience and technology to keep the team crews comfortable and it would be wonderful if we can contribute to the team?s victory.?

Davide Brivio ?Team Manager SUZUKI ECSTAR:

?It?s always good to start a collaboration with a new partner. In this case, we are kicking-off with RS Taichi, a very well known technical clothing brand and founded by a former motocross rider. We are really happy to work together in this new partnership for 2017. We were looking for a premium technical material for our team clothing and we are looking forward to taking advantage from RS Taichi technology to make all our staff comfortable during our race weekends.?

Michael van der Mark to Replace Rossi in Aragon
Yamaha's WorldSBK rider Michael van der Mark will be riding Valentino Rossi's YZR-M1 in round 14 of the 2017 MotoGP World Championship, staged at the MotorLand Aragón track in Spain, while the Italian is recovering from his leg injury.

Rossi is making good progress with his rehabilitation process. However, it is expected that he will not be able to compete again before the Grand Prix of Japan at the Twin Ring Motegi, held from October 13th - 15th.

For the Aragón race, Van der Mark will be backed by Rossi's usual crew. This opportunity will provide the 24-year-old with a similar MotoGP experience to the one fellow Yamaha WorldSBK rider and 2017 Suzuka 8-hours Endurance Race winner Alex Lowes was given last year. The Brit replaced Bradley Smith in the Monster Yamaha Tech3 Team at the British, San Marino, and Aragón Grand Prix.

Unlike Lowes, who had the benefit of some testing mileage in Brno, Czech Republic, prior to taking part in the MotoGP weekends, Van der Mark will debut in the premier class on the YZR-M1 without any training. Nevertheless, the three-time Suzuka8H winner is well accustomed to the demands of working for a factory team. The Dutchman is also no stranger to the MotoGP paddock, having competed in seven 125cc Grands Prix in 2010, and in the 2011 Moto2 race in Assen, the Netherlands. Moreover, his experience in the FIM Superbike (WorldSBK) and Supersport World Championships, and the European Superstock 600 make him well acquainted with the MotorLand Aragón circuit, having raced there seven times before.

Lin Jarvis
Managing Director, Yamaha Motor Racing
"Following Valentino's crash on Thursday, August 31st, Yamaha decided not to replace him at the San Marino Grand Prix, but for the next Grand Prix in Aragón the team is obliged to enter two riders. It being virtually impossible for Valentino to be fit to race in Aragón, Yamaha decided to search for a capable replacement from within its own pool of contracted riders. Having previously used Katsuyuki Nakasuga to fill in for Jorge Lorenzo in 2011 and Alex Lowes to replace Bradley Smith in 2016, we decided that Michael van der Mark should have the opportunity this time around. It is never easy to step in to replace another rider and even more difficult to replace Valentino Rossi, but we believe that Michael has all the credentials and experience to do a good job. We will give him our very best support and wish him every success for this exciting opportunity. We also hope that Valentino will continue to make a rapid recovery and that we will see him again, back on his YZR-M1, on the earliest possible occasion."

Michael van der Mark
Yamaha Factory Racing Rider
"I'm excited to be given the opportunity to ride the YZR-M1 at the Aragón MotoGP round. I've never ridden a MotoGP bike before, so this will be a completely new experience for me. I'm very curious to see what it feels like to ride on such a machine. I realise that it won't be easy going straight into an official practice session without any prior testing. Nevertheless, I'm very grateful to Yamaha for the opportunity. I'm sure it will be a great learning experience."

TWO POSITIVE AND INTENSE DAYS OF TESTING IN ARAGON

Team Suzuki Press Office – September 27.
Team SUZUKI ECSTAR completed the last two days of testing of the current season at Motorland Circuit in Aragon. Thanks to very cooperative and warm weather both official riders, Andrea Iannone and Alex Rins were able to make use of the track for an extensive period of time.

With numerous new parts to try out, Iannone and Rins completed the testing plan with no incidents and enough time to seek out the direction in which to work for next season.

The work in the garage was focused on testing new parts for the 2018 season, in particular a new chassis, from which they have compared different setups from the old one. Ahead of a tough series of three races, Andrea and Alex tested different settings as well, helped by good weather conditions (around 25ºC air temperature and 35ºC on the track). The testing concluded with the Italian rider completing 170 laps and the Spaniard a total of 142.

The team´s next appearance will be in a few weeks’ time at the Motegi Circuit where they will compete in the Japanese Grand Prix on October 15th.

Davide Brivio – Team Manager
“We’re satisfied by these two days because it is important to find some time, away from the pressure, to get back to some things we´ve previously tried, and also to try new improvements. The weather in Aragon complied perfectly so that we could test new configurations to be used within the remaining portion of this season, and also test some new pieces for the 2018 machine that we would like to have ready for the Valencia test in November. We would like to test the first new 2018 configuration there. It will not be a brand new bike but an evolution of the current GSX-RR. Here in Aragon we did our first testing on some new things and we were able to give important feedback to engineers. I’d say we’ve worked with one eye on the end of this season and the other towards next year. Of course, these tests are also incredibly important for the riders; Alex is gaining more and more riding experience and Andrea is improving the feeling with the bike.”

MOTUL AND SUZUKI CELEBRATE 30 YEARS OF COLLABORATION IN MotoGP

Team Suzuki Press Office – October 12.
motul-graphic2.jpg

Many manufacturers work with their technical partners for a number of years to build expertise and experience, but there are few that have the length and strength of collaboration as that between Suzuki in MotoGP™ and Motul and 2017 celebrates 30 years together.

Suzuki Motor Corporation first entered a factory team in the 500cc Grand Prix World Championship in 1974 with a Suzuki RG500, but it was from the start of the partnership with lubricant partner Motul that Suzuki really made its mark in the modern era. Aside from winning two world titles in 1993 with Kevin Schwantz and another in 2000 with Kenny Roberts Jr., there have been no fewer than 39 victories over the years on Suzuki machinery, lubricated to success by Motul, the most recent in the 2016 MotoGP™ Championship with Maverick Viñales aboard the Suzuki GSX-RR at Silverstone in the UK.

Over the past three decades, Suzuki’s engineers and Motul’s technical experts have forged a deep-seated understanding and symbiotic working relationship. The perfect oils have been developed especially for Suzuki’s engines, including an exclusive, experimental lubricant for use in Suzuki’s MotoGP prototypes, which responds to the extreme conditions and mechanical restraints presented by the top level in two-wheeled competition. Those 30 years of collaboration have helped in the development of Motul’s Factory Line; a racing-oriented range of products that the Team SUZUKI ECSTAR MotoGP team is using today.

Team Suzuki MotoGP’s latest bike, the GSX-RR, is this year in the hands of Grand Prix winner Andrea Iannone and young Spaniard, a former Moto2 runner-up and Rookie of the year, Alex Rins.

MotoGP remains at the pinnacle of the competitive motorcycling world, and each year is a living laboratory for Motul to develop and innovate new products which are destined for the brand’s 90+ markets worldwide.

Both brands are going to celebrate this anniversary with their closest partners during the 2017 Motul MotoGP Grand Prix of Japan this weekend.

Mr. Masahiro Nishikawa, Suzuki’s Executive General Manager, Motorcycle Operations, said: “Suzuki Motor Corporation is proud to have enjoyed such a long and mutually beneficial relationship with Motul. A 30-year partnership with one single technical partner in the rapidly-developing world of Grand Prix motorcycle racing is an extraordinary achievement for both companies. It certainly proves the total belief that both Suzuki and Motul have in the value of this unique relationship in developing both Grand Prix-winning motorcycles and Grand Prix winning lubricants. Suzuki Motor Corporation looks forward to continuing this long and successful relationship with Motul as we continue on our MotoGP development program together.”

Hervé Amelot, President of the Managing Board at Motul, added: “Motul is extremely proud of the very special relationship it has with Suzuki, one of the world’s best known and most successful manufacturers. What has been achieved in MotoGP has been the result of a great collaboration over 30 years which is focused around communication, vision and an endless pushing of the boundaries of technology. We look forward to many more years working together, and will enjoy celebrating this anniversary with Suzuki!”
