Midland G7 modification

Converted to accept an external aerial, I cut the original aerial 'tube' down to accept a BNC socket, this was wired to the original aerial point on the PCB. The thread of the BNC socket was 3/8" UNF, so the cut down aerial tube was tapped out to match. Simple then to connect the external aerial to the radio using 75ohm aerial cable.. I was told that 75 ohm will work with 50 ohm devices but a 50 ohm cable will not work with 75 ohm devices :dunno:

The two black wires soldered to the PCB allow connection of an external 6vdc supply (I used a Sony Ericsson nicad phone charger 12 to 6 volt)to either charge the original midland nicad battery pack or simply power the radio. NB; its best to use the midland battery pack to allow the radio to maintain user settings. Where to wires are soldered is where the nicad pack connects to the PCB once the back is refitted.

this sounds like a continuation post from another thread - other than that show us some good closeup pics of the mod and on the bike - ie where did you mount the Ariel and set the radio

In a way it is a continuation to my query in the help section here;
http://www.bikersoracle.com/blackbird/forum/showthread.php?t=55060

The Aerial is mounted to a bracket/bolt on the Givi rack, the bolt that the lower support arm fits to on the Givi side plate. The Aerial is angled up above the rear indicator. Tucked up like this is pretty near unobtrusive.

The radio is under the seat beside the LH side of the tool roll, mounted on rubber, strapped down with the tool roll strap.

I can supply pictures if you need them.
