Just got some new boots fitted to my bike. I have used the Pilot Power original for a few tyre changes now and have been pleased with them. I am looking forward to seeing what feel and wear I got out of these 3's.

PR3's

Hi, I've just had over 7K miles on the PR3's and am considering the NEW PR4 GT......Dont get me wrong I loved the PR3's but just recently the front seems to be juddering & I'm wondering if it's worn unevenly even though it's difficult to tell by looking and feeling the tyre.

Anyone on the forum have the PR4 GT's?

Cheers

Derek,
The PR3's have been a huge success in the Southern Hemisphere on all kinds of bike but interestingly, the issue you mention has been showing up on some larger, heavier bikes. I don't know any 'bird owners with PR4 GT's but I do know one with an ST 1300 and another with a Concours and both are absolutely delighted with them, having come from PR3?s. I run the standard PR4 on my Street Triple and they are great tyres.

Thanks for reply James, a check on Michelin site reveals the PR4 standard rather than GT fitting (heavier bikes..e.g. RT1200). I shall be ordering a pair of these soon. Cant make up my mind whether to do another 600 on the 3's this weekend or push to fit the 4's & feel the difference.

Thats roughly the same mileage I got out of mine too. I had to replace the rear at 5500miles due to a puncture but it was starting to square off anyway. The front feels like its pushing away in tight bends now so might replace that. I have the standard pr3s not the pr3gts on mine.

I read somewhere that they are always supposed to be replaced as a pair as they are designed to wear in unison.

Previously I was getting 2 rears to every front but not so with these, but then again, ive never had as much grip or confidence in the wet on any other tyre either.

just looked on the michelin site it says pr4 gt not suitable for the bird.

MICHELIN Pilot Road 4 GT is not compatible with your bike. Discover MICHELIN tyres that are compatible.

Interesting! I've just looked on the Michelin Australia website. On that, it says the PR4 is compatible, but says nothing about the PR4 GT not being compatible. If you choose the ST 1300 Pan, it specifically says that the PR4 is NOT compatible but the PR4 GT is. Can understand that based on the weight and geometry of the Pan. Presumably, Michelin believes that the "standard" PR4 has sufficient carcass strength for the 'bird.

When I spoke to them as the Excel bike show I was told the standard PR4 was fine for the 'bird and you should only consider the GT is two up with luggage for most of the time.

I have just had the pilot power 3 fitted to the rear of mine....

so far (500miles) I'm really impressed, Heats up really quick and seams to handle full power out of a corner with no issues.

The profile of the tire also makes the bike want to lean more when cornering, I think it is leaps and bounds from the PR3 I had, but then again I use it more as a sports bike than a tourer.

I'm doing a trackday tomorrow, I'll let you know how I get on.

Update on PR4's

My overdue update, but TBF I have only recently swapped from PR3's to PR4's.
Very pleased so far, once I got over the initial concern of the front, then I found the tyre fitter had inflated to 36psi.

Great tyres and did I say I got 9K out of the 3's and they still were not worn out. with winter coming I need a bit of tread & confidence & these do that.
Paid ?240 delivered through Nationalbiketyres. However I do understand from a mate who has just had the PR4 GT's fitted to his FJR 1300 that he paid ?190 for them through "Leadertyres" I think they are called.
And I thought my deal was ok.
