Pow-Lo’s off thread brought back a memory from many years ago, a friend of mine called Steven Ellis had a Honda 125 which he gave to his younger brother Andrew. My eldest brother worked as a microbiologist at Leeds University & often helped out in other departments, at one point he was doing a detachment at Leeds teaching Hospitals, he was asked to attend & observe autopsys.
I was home on Christmas leave from the Navy, my brother & my sister in law came in & were unusually quiet, my Mother asked them what was wrong, he sat down & put his head in his hands, when he looked up he was on the brink of crying (unusual as he was quite a cold unemotional character) he then explained that the autopsy he had started to observe was Andrew Ellis, apparently he had been riding on York road & as he was passing the Irish centre he moved to the side of the road & clipped the kerb, as he went down he cracked his head & died from a bleed on the brain, the effect on the whole family was devastating, Steven blamed himself as did the Mother.

Lost a few riding friends over the years through stupid and avoidable accidents, as hard as it is they all knew the risks and probably wouldn't do anything differently it was and still is part of riding

I can't imagine the shock of finding out that an autopsy you had to attend was one of those friends

Apart from being a tragic tale, that’s way too creepy for me. There were twins in my year at high school, Andrew and Steven Ellis. Andrew went on to marry his school sweetheart. I saw her on Facebook a couple of years ago and she’s married to someone else but double-barrelled her married name (Ellis) with that of her new husband. I’m pretty sure Andrew passed away.

I mentioned briefly a day or so ago that one of the members of another bike forum I’m on had passed away. Although I don’t know the details he was with a group get together of maybe 30/40 others. The next I’ve heard is he was knocked off by a car just away from that meeting. He was extremely experienced and in a blink was gone. :(
